DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women's service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism and honoring patriots of the Revolutionary War. Founded in 1890, DAR members number over 183,000 women in 3,000 chapters across the 50 states and Washington, D.C. DAR members volunteer more than 250,000 hours annually to veteran patriots, award thousands of dollars in s

cholarships each year to students, and support schools for the underprivileged with annual donations exceeding one million dollars. Our name is derived from an historic ship, the U.S.S. The name became a symbol of an alliance between the two cities, Champaign and Urbana, and the University of Illinois. We usually meet on the second Saturday of the month from September to June. Any woman 18 years or older, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible to join the DAR, regardless of race, creed, religion or country of origin.
