Hello friends and fellow mortals! We've missed you all over the past couple months. We are so excited to host this special edition of Waking Death featuring guest speaker Chaundra Bishop. Chaundra is campaigning to become our new Champaign county coroner.

The coroner plays a vital role in setting the tone for a community's experience of death care, of dying, and of picking up the pieces in the aftermath of losing a loved one. When we heard about her new vision for this important community role, we though you all might want to hear about it as well and ask any questions you might have.

We are so looking forward to catching up with you all, to welcoming anyone who's newly curious about death & what it means for life to know that it will end. We're also looking forward to the opportunity to expand on our past discussions of the part that the coroner plays in our collective experience of death.

In many ways, we've all been experiencing literal and figurative deaths big and small. And it can bring on feelings of anxiety, grief, or fear of death.

This fear (of dying alone) is real for so many right now, and this article seems to be at least a little balm for the soul. What are your thoughts about how we might be able to accept and cope with this fear?

She wants to be surrounded by loved ones when she dies. Not intubated and isolated in a hospital.

Hello Waking Death friends! Wow, is it just me or did we go from 2 to 10 on the scale of palpable death anxiety? There is so much that’s uncertain right now. How can safe, constructive conversations about death support this community right now?

We plan to hold next month’s event over zoom. In the meantime, we will add questions from the death deck to our stories daily to keep the conversation going.
