If believers come together for an hour or two and spend the entire time discussing only worldly matters—whether it’s sports, health issues, or current events—something is off balance. Casual conversation has its place; it can help build relationships and set a comfortable tone. But if it completely overshadows spiritual discussions, we may need to examine our priorities.
As Colossians 3:2 reminds us, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” While everyday topics aren’t inherently wrong, our gatherings should ultimately strengthen our faith, encourage one another, and draw us closer to God. If spiritual matters are consistently left out, it could be a sign that something else has taken too much space in our hearts.
