You know I see they are doing a peaceful protest in support of the wrongful death of George Floyd and the BLM movement, here in Upper. I think it’s wonderful that they want to show support. The thing that bothers me is the not in my backyard attitude of people in Upper. Many say they support this cause but yet they scream they are afraid of violence. It sounds like the Upper police have a grip on watching the protest. You scream about your fear of violence, violence can happen anytime and anywhere. Without reason or sensibility. To close your mouths and fear change is to condone the hideous thing that happened to Mr. Floyd. You fear this protest because of a chance of violence, imagine having that fear every time you walked down the street, every time you get in a car, every time you go to the store. Black people have been mistreated and systematically executed for years. They aren’t screaming only black lives matter, they are screaming that their lives are just as important as everyone else’s. They are the ones being targeted at this point in our lives and they need to be treated with the same respect and decency as any other human. So I understand the fear some may have over the violence and destruction that is possible, but you are failing to think of the possibility of peace, love and community. Don’t count every human out as being incapable of peaceful protest and support. “All I am saying, Is give peace a chance”
