Sunday marks the 21st Anniversary of September 11th. It is unimaginable to think that we have not seen Welles' infectious smile or enjoyed his company for 21 years. He brought so much joy to those around him and tried, often succeding, to leave a place better than he found it. To those who knew Welles and continue to mourn his loss, and to those who never had the great pleasure of meeting him, we mourn with you. This year, instead of feeling grief, we would like to share Welles' light and challenge you to do the same. Share Welles' story and spread his legacy. Share your favorite Welles story. Make someone laugh. Give someone a red bandanna. Donate a copy of The Man in the Red Bandanna to your local school or library. Let others know Welles and the light and laughter he embodied. Remember the man who remembered others.

Today would have been Welles' 45th birthday. The 21st we could not share with him. It would be easy to focus on the loss... on our loss... but instead we focus on what Welles has given. His legacy reminds others to care for those around them, to be unselfish in a world that promotes otherwise. We ask you, today, and any day you think of Welles, to care. Care about others, care about doing what is right, care about bringing good into this world.

While we can't wait to see everyone on the Heights and running down Comm Ave, again, out of an abundance of caution for the BC Community, the 17th Annual Welles Remy Crowther Red Bandanna 5K will be held virtually. That being said, last year's run was the largest it has ever been. We would love to see those numbers again and have runners/walkers from all over the country run with us, this year. If interested, sign up here - http://www.bc.edu/redbandannarun!
