This year’s powerful and timely theme recognizes the courage required to protect civil rights, defend the rule of law, and ensure that every voice is heard. As a veteran White House correspondent and journalist who has covered multiple presidential administrations, Ms. Ryan brings a unique perspective on courage, truth, and accountability.

What better way to close out our bar year than by celebrating highlights from our highly successful 2026 Scholarship Tea! We extend our sincere appreciation to Judge Dolores Dorsainvil and Nefrette Smith, Co-Chairs of the Women's Committee, along with the entire Women's Tea Committee, for their outstanding leadership, hard work, and dedication in creating such a beautiful and memorable event for our members and the community. A special thank you to United States Senator Angela Alsobrooks for serving as our keynote speaker. Congratulations to all of the women judges who took the bench this year. Your service strengthens our judiciary, brings diverse perspectives to the administration of justice, and inspires the next generation of women and girls to pursue careers in the law. We thank you for your commitment to fairness, integrity, and public service.

Hosted by Judge Herman Dawson (Ret.) and Paula Dawson, this special gathering will bring us together in community to reflect, celebrate, and uplift the significance of Juneteenth and its continued impact.

Men Who Can Cook 2026 was an absolute SOLD OUT success — filled with incredible flavors, amazing energy, wonderful camaraderie, great music, and unforgettable fellowship! Our 12 talented chefs brought their best dishes and serious culinary creativity, making the competition fierce and the afternoon unforgettable. Congratulations to Chef Mike Hayes, the official winner of the 2026 Men Who Can Cook competition! We extend heartfelt gratitude to all 12 Chefs who answered the call to help relaunch Men Who Can Cook after more than a 25-year hiatus. This was more than a cooking competition — it was the return of a signature J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association tradition. Each chef played an important role in helping bring this legacy event back to life for a new generation. A special thank you to Immediate Past President Chandra Walker Holloway and Gabriel Christian for co-chairing this outstanding event and helping create such a memorable experience for all who attended.

The J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association was honored to welcome Maryland’s newest attorneys at our New Admittees Reception held on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This reception was a wonderful opportunity to connect with newly admitted attorneys, welcome them into the Bourne family, and help them begin building meaningful professional relationships within the legal community. We were thrilled by the fantastic turnout and the spirit of encouragement and inspiration shared throughout the afternoon.
