As students head back to school, learning doesn't stop when the final bell rings. Through Melwood Community Service's Youth Enrichment Services (YES) program, students like Ayden are exploring science, building confidence, and discovering new interests through hands-on STEAM activities. Incorporating real-world learning experiences, YES helps the next generation develop skills that support success in the classroom and beyond.

🌞 Wellness is always better when shared.

Our Wellness Without Borders event brought colleagues together for a day of connection, movement, and fun in the summer sunshine. Team members enjoyed a group walk, wellness activities, a healthy eating demonstration, great food and plenty of opportunities to catch up with one another.

A big thank you to our HR and Events team for creating such a memorable day and to everyone who joined in.

On this day in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law, transforming opportunities for millions of Americans with disabilities and advancing disability rights as civil rights. Congressman Steny Hoyer served as the chief House sponsor of the ADA and helped guide this landmark legislation to passage. As he completes his final year in Congress, Melwood is proud to recognize his decades of leadership and advocacy for people with disabilities.

We are grateful for his longstanding support of Melwood, including his visit with Melwood employees at the George Washington Carver Center. Today, we celebrate the ADA’s legacy and thank Congressman Hoyer for helping create a future with greater opportunities for people with disabilities.

This Disability Pride month, we're celebrating the impact of our mission, as we support people with disabilities in building meaningful careers and contribute their talents to their communities.

One example is Derek, a Melwood Enterprises employee and AbilityOne participant who is Deaf and has dedicated 23 years to maintaining the USDA’s George Washington Carver Center in Beltsville, Maryland through his role in facilities maintenance. This year, he was recognized with the William M. Usdane Award from SourceAmerica for his outstanding contributions. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that exemplify how disability employment drives innovation, strengthens the economy, and enhances the nation’s workforce readiness.

Thank you SourceAmerica, for recognizing individuals like Derek who demonstrate the endless possibilities of success when everyone is given access to opportunity and support.
