A little garden magic after a long day at the nursery.
One of our favorite things to do on a sunny day at the nursery is take a stroll through our gardens and see what’s blooming, which critters are visiting, and what seeds might be ready for collection. Fall is such a busy and beautiful time in the native plant world!
The other day, we were checking on our bottle gentian (Gentiana clausa) and spotted the cutest bumblebees popping in and out of the deep violet flowers, buzzing around and collecting pollen.
Here’s the cool part: bottle gentian flowers stay tightly closed, keeping smaller insects from reaching the pollen. Bumblebees are one of the only pollinators strong enough to pry open the blooms.
A sweet little reminder that nature is full of incredible partnerships, even in the smallest corners of our gardens. 🌿
