Today members of the John Hanson Chapter SAR and Pleseant Prospect Chapter DAR were preparing the graveside and grounds for our Patriot Grave Marking Ceremony on May 2nd for Dr. William Beanes.

Please mark your calendars. There will be a Patriot Grave Marking Ceremony for Dr. William Beanes, a Patriot of the American Revolution and the War of 1812, will held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, starting at 10am at 14701 Governor Oden Bowie Dr, Upper Marlboro. His grave site is located on the corner of Elm Street and Governor Oden Bowie Drive. There is plenty of parking on Governor Oden Bowie Drive in front of the County Administration Building. This event is being hosted by the Pleasant Prospect Chapter DAR and the John Hanson Chapter MDSSAR. Today, members of the John Hanson Chapter attended the 250th Commeration of the Battle of Great Bridge and presented the Chapter wreath... After the ceremony, there was an reenactment nearby.

Today compatriots celebrated the 250th Anniversary of the Skirmish at Kemp's Landing. This was the first skirmish in Virginia where Patriot blood and lives were lost. The John Hanson Chapter presented their Chapter Wreath at today's ceremony.

Today we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Hampton.. the first engagement outside of New England.. local militia were able to repel British forces from landing in Hampton, Virginia... We were able to attend the celebration and present our Chapter wreath..
