Meet our friends the Durst Family. Jonathon, Carol, Harry, and Michael. Jonathon is a volunteer firefighter at the Garrettford Drexel Hill Fire Company. His sons Harry (20) and Michael (18) have been living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive neuromuscular disorder that causes a loss of motor, pulmonary, and cardiac function. The Durst family have very dear friends of the Upper Darby Professional Firefighters for many years. Harry and Michael have been ambassadors at our famous Pour for the Cure events.
Duchenne has created many challenges for the Durst family, such as difficulty attending medical appointments, school, and taking part in activities with friends and family. Jonathon says "It is really hard and dangerous for us to lift them into our vehicle. One of us is bound to hurt ourselves. We want to let them be kids and can't do that without an accessible van."
Help Michael and Harry reach the freedom and independence they deserve! Please consider donating to this Accessible Vehicle Fund fundraiser to help get them the safe, accessible transportation they need.
