LeadingAge Ohio

LeadingAge Ohio LeadingAge Ohio is advancing solutions for exceptional care and successful living.

Founded in 1937, LeadingAge Ohio is a nonprofit organization that represents approximately 400 nonprofit long-term care organizations located in more than 150 Ohio towns and cities, as well as those providing ancillary health care and housing services. Member organizations serve more than 50,000 elderly Ohioans daily and employ more than 20,000 persons statewide. Not-for-profit providers of senior

services include senior housing, both subsidized and market rate, adult day care, home- and community-based services, assisted living and skilled nursing. A majority of members are faith-based and provide many or all of these services. LeadingAge Ohio is a member-driven organization, with leadership elected by peers from around the state. The leadership team is composed of the Board of Directors, including executive committee officers; regional directors, responsible for organizing in-district member meetings; and delegates, who represent AOPHA at our national organization. Strategic committees, action councils and special interest groups comprised of members from around the state help to develop and oversee governing policies and positions.

Most of us can name a changemaker right away: the colleague, caregiver, mentor, resident, patient, or loved one whose actions made a lasting difference. The Hall of Changemakers at the 2026 LeadingAge Ohio Annual Conference and Trade Show will recognize those people and organizations whose leadership, compassion, and commitment have left a mark on our lives, our communities, and our work.

Yesterday was bittersweet in the best way. We recognized Michele Engelbach, President and CEO of The Ohio Eastern Star Home, as she prepares to retire from that role and, in turn, conclude her service as chair of the LeadingAge Ohio Awards Committee. We marked the moment with a clapout featuring gold star clappers, which felt especially fitting for Michele. She is known for keeping a clapper close at hand and bringing it out at just the right moment. We also sent her into retirement with a travel charcuterie board for the camping adventures ahead. 🏕️

As she steps away from her role as Awards Committee Chair, Michele's service is a reminder of what is possible when LeadingAge Ohio member leaders volunteer their time, experience and insight for board and committee service. LeadingAge Ohio is inviting other members to consider how they might serve. We are now accepting nominations for the Board of Directors and member committees, with forms due by June 30. Volunteers help guide work tied to advocacy, annual conference, awards, membership, and other priorities important to nonprofit aging services providers across Ohio. 💙

LeadingAge Ohio appreciates House and Senate leaders for advancing long‑overdue nursing home back payments. This reaffirms the quality‑care investments upheld by the 2025 Ohio Supreme Court decision, honors providers’ past commitments and strengthens the foundation for future excellence in long‑term care. We look forward to the Senate floor vote on HB479 and urge the House to speedily concur.

This week, Leadership Academy’s third session focused on what it really takes to innovate and drive meaningful, lasting change. Hosted by Judson Senior Living at historic Wade Park Manor in Cleveland, the session challenged fellows to think about how leaders move good ideas into practice: by setting a clear path, building momentum, and creating the conditions that help change last. We were grateful to learn from leaders at Judson Senior Living, leaders from across the LeadingAge Ohio membership, local leader and Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute founder Brandon Edwin Chrostowski, whose experience added depth and candor to the day.

Leadership Academy is not only about what happens during each session. Some of the most meaningful moments happen between sessions, over drinks and dinner, in shared laughter, and through the kind of inside jokes that come from learning and working closely together. Those moments build trust, deepen relationships, and over time become something invaluable: a career-long network of peers across the aging services continuum who can rely on one another, share perspective, and lead with confidence in their own organizations and communities.

Thank you to Judson Senior Living, our speakers, and our panelists for investing in this cohort and helping make the day such a meaningful one. 🤝✨
