Protect Your Library The UA Library Levy Campaign

On May 3, 2022 Upper Arlington residents will be asked to vote on a 2-mill renewal and 1-mill levy increase to ensure our award-winning libraries can continue to function as a pillar of our community. Local funding makes up more than half of the Library’s budget, so we must vote FOR the levy or else the Library will lose 53% of its funding when the current levy expires this fall.

We are excited to announce that UA residents have overwhelmingly voted to pass the Library Levy! We know that the Library is part of what makes UA great, and we are happy to know that UA believes so as well.

A huge thank you to the campaign and finance committees, as well as all the volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts to spread the message!

This win allows the Library to maintain its hours and services, retain its highly trained and dedicated staff, fix and improve the buildings that are in need of critical maintenance, and expand outreach services. We hope to see you around the Library soon!

Today is Election Day! Head to your polling location any time between 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. to vote FOR the UA Library Levy. It will appear as Issue #2 on your ballot. Follow the link below to find your polling location.

"The Library has always been a favorite place of mine. Every Friday my family would go to the Library and stay until it closed at 9 pm. I volunteered there every summer, and after encouragement from our librarians, I worked as an intern in the Youth department in high school! It even influenced my career path, as I'll be attending Kent State for a Masters of Library and Information Science this fall!

The UA Public Libraries have had a massive impact on me as I've grown up. Voting for this levy will help the UA Libraries to continue making positive impacts on members of the community!

Tomorrow is Election Day! Remember, 𝟱𝟯% 𝗼𝗻 𝟱/𝟯! We must vote FOR the UA Library levy! A few things to keep in mind:

• If you’re voting by mail, your ballots must be postmarked by today!
• If you want to vote early in-person, today is the last day to do so!
• If you’re voting tomorrow, make a plan to vote. Be sure you know where your polling location is and that you have the proper forms of identification.

If the levy does not pass on May 3rd, the Library will lose 53% of its funding.

Yes, we’re serious. This levy is to replace the current operating levy, which has been in effect since 2007 and will expire this year. This loss would result is drastic cuts to hours, materials, and programming.

Share this with your neighbors and make sure they head to the polls on Tuesday to vote FOR the UA Library levy!

Did you know that the Library is operating on half a million dollars less than it was in 2008? Because the 2012 and 2016 levies were renewals of the 2007 operating levy, the budget is still based on 2007 property values.

Imagine trying to pay your bills today with the income you had in 2008 – you’d have to be very savvy to make that work. Now imagine you lose 53% of that already tight budget. This is what is at stake for our Library on May 3rd.

Not only does our nationally-ranked 5-Star Library provide essential services, but it does so at a great value. On average, the Library saves patrons over $1,000 every year! When you walk into the UAPL you have access to 1.8 million items in circulation, 1.2 million digital resources, and over 1,000 programs at your fingertips.

On May 3rd, we must vote FOR the Library levy to sustain this great value!
