Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we were able to serve 903 individuals and 230 families in August through our Help Desk. Our Food Pantry also provides essential food to 28 families in our Housing Program, and your donations help us meet these growing needs.

This month we are specifically asking for the following essential items to have available for those who rely on us so we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families:

🛍 Baby formula
🛍 Diapers
🛍 Canned soup
🛍 Canned chicken
🛍 Canned mixed vegetables
🛍 Rice
🛍 Beans

Donations can be dropped off:
⏰ Tuesday–Friday | 9am–12pm & 1–5pm
📍 1501 W. 9th Street, Suite D, Upland, CA 91786

Thank you for your generous support that allows us to meet our neighbors where they are and provide the support they need! đź’ś

A Day of Service with GEODIS 🤝 During the month of August, we were fortunate to welcome an incredible group of volunteers from GEODIS Americas who rolled up their sleeves and got to work sorting, dating, organizing, and stocking our Food Pantry.

But what stood out from the moment they arrived was the joy they brought to their service. It wasn't long after they started that our hallways filled up with echoes of music, laughter, and a spirit of gratitude.

Foothill Family Shelter has built a wonderful relationship with GEODIS, and together we continue to make a meaningful impact in our community through their generous support, volunteerism, and advocacy. Their support of our pantry is especially meaningful, having chosen us a generous grant recipient. Each month, our pantry helps us serve more than 300 individuals through our Community Help Desk, in addition to providing much-needed food and essential items to the families living in our programs.

To the entire GEODIS team, thank you for your passion, generosity, enthusiasm, and dedication to our mission and the families we serve. We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and look forward to continuing our work together to make a difference in the lives of families throughout our community. 🙏💜

COLLABORATION CREATES CHANGE 🙏💡 On August 11, Foothill Family Shelter hosted our first Collaborative Impact Open House, bringing together community partners, school district McKinney-Vento representatives, and organizations that share a common purpose: helping families experiencing homelessness find stability, resources, and a path forward.

Guests had the opportunity to learn more about Foothill Family Shelter, meet our team and fellow community partners, and tour our transitional housing program—including a fully furnished apartment within our 28-unit residential complex. By opening our doors, our partners were able to gain a deeper understanding of our program, the environment our families call home, and the services and support available to them.

We were honored to welcome representatives from Hawkeye Workforce, Cucamonga School District, House of Ruth, Inland Valley Hope Partners, the Ontario Housing Department and Upland Unified School District. Thank you for sharing your time, ideas, expertise, and commitment to our community.

A very special thank you to Ryan from Inland Valley News for covering the event and shining a light on the important work happening throughout our community. Ryan's article can be read here: https://inlandvalleynews.com/foothill-family-shelter-holds-open-house-connecting-resources-to-families-in-need/

We are incredibly grateful for the partnerships that make our work possible, and we plan to host our Collaborative Impact Open House quarterly, creating an ongoing space for organizations to connect, collaborate, share resources, and discover new ways to better serve families throughout our community. Because when we open our doors to one another, we open more doors for the families who need us most.

Another Quakes Family Night knocked out of the park!🎆

Our annual Quakes Family Baseball Night brought Foothill Family Shelter families back to the ballpark for an evening of cheering from the stands, ballpark favorites, fireworks, and time together under the stadium lights.

It’s a simple night out, but one that has become a special tradition for our families and a chance to trade the everyday routine for a little baseball, laughter, and memory-making.

Jenny, one of our clients, said it best: “Thanks to the donors for the tickets. We had a blast!”

We’re grateful to the generous donors who stepped up to the plate and made another memorable night at the ballpark possible for our families.

Until next season! âšľ

FROM ONE BACK TO SCHOOL BASH TO THE NEXT! 🎒Thank you to Upland Unified School District for inviting us to your Back-to-School Bash last week!

We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up, support one another, and create opportunities for local families. Events like this allow us to connect with families right here in our community who may benefit from our housing programs and pantry services—and that connection means everything to us.

Thank you, Upland Unified School District, for creating such a welcoming space for families and community organizations to come together. We are proud to serve alongside so many incredible partners who are committed to making a difference.

Here’s to another amazing school year and a community that continues to show up, support, and make an impact! 🎉📚

Volunteer Spotlight: 💡Michelle & Her Amazing Team! 🫶

Each month, something special happens during our L.E.A.R.N. sessions: while parents take life-skills classes designed to support and empower them, their kids enjoy an hour of creativity, imagination, and FUN — thanks to our incredible volunteers, one of whom is Michelle.

A longtime Girl Scout and local high schooler involved in Upland Key Club, Michelle created a special monthly arts experience for our kids during L.E.A.R.N. and built a team around the goal of making a meaningful and sustainable impact in their community, creating a space filled with smiles, laughter, and joy.

Last week, Michelle and her friends Sarah, Natasha, Cindy, and Olivia took Michelle's vision one step further — they donated all their art supplies and rolled up their sleeves to transform our children's corner into an organized, welcoming, inviting space.

These remarkable young women are a beautiful example of what teamwork, creativity, community service, and dedication look like in action, and they remind us that you're never too young to make a meaningful impact.

We are so proud of you, so grateful for you, and so inspired by you! 🥹🥰💜

L.E.A.R.N.ING TO LOVE đź’ˇOur recent L.E.A.R.N. workshop created a safe and supportive space for participants to reflect, connect, and challenge the thoughts that sometimes tell us we aren't enough.

Through interactive exercises, participants worked on releasing negative, self-limiting beliefs and replacing them with affirmations centered on self-worth, acceptance, and personal growth. The conversation also encouraged participants to recognize their positive qualities, celebrate progress instead of striving for perfection, and remember that caring for ourselves is essential—not selfish. Similar to the oxygen-mask reminder: we have to care for ourselves before we can fully care for others.

A special thank you to Ann Houlion for hosting this meaningful L.E.A.R.N. workshop! Ann brings experience leading retreats and we are grateful she shared her time, insight, and encouragement with our families to create such an engaging and uplifting experience. 🫶

We are thrilled to celebrate Tiffany as she embarks on an exciting new chapter! After recently transitioning into our One-Year Housing Program, Tiffany has already achieved an incredible milestone—being approved for her own two-bedroom apartment in the City of Fontana.

Tiffany is leaving our program with more than $8,000 in savings, demonstrating the power of determination, careful planning, and consistent hard work. During her time with Foothill Family Shelter, she also achieved another personal goal by obtaining a second job, one of which she had a goal of obtaining--creating even more opportunities for long-term career growth and advancement.

When Tiffany entered our program, she did not have transportation. Through disciplined budgeting and thoughtful financial planning, she was able to purchase a vehicle that will support her independence and continued success.

Tiffany embraced every opportunity our program offered. She actively participated in therapy, found it to be a valuable part of her journey, and plans to continue individual counseling after leaving our program while also beginning family therapy with her children. Her commitment to personal growth and building a stable, sustainable future has been inspiring to witness.

Throughout her time with us, Tiffany consistently expressed gratitude and exemplified what it means to fully engage in the program. She has truly been an outstanding resident, and it has been a privilege to walk alongside her on this journey.

Congratulations, Tiffany! We are incredibly proud of all you have accomplished and can't wait to see everything you achieve in this next chapter. We wish you and your family continued happiness, stability, and success.
