Santa Ana Community Artist/a Coalition Connecting local artists to their communities in a collaborative process to create art that transform

The Coalition is a grassroots collaborative effort which came together in June of 2013 specifically for the purpose of creating community-based, community-driven mural arts projects in the City of Santa Ana. Our main organizational partner MC Gallery is committed to the research, production, presentation and interpretation of contemporary Latin American art. The gallery also supports emerging artists by offering opportunities and education that explore ideas at the junction of arts, performance, and culture. MC Gallery supports events tied to the community and always remains a crucible for new ideas. In addition, the Coalition involves many community leaders, arts administrators, students, educators, local artists and non-artists alike. The list of project participants represents Santa Ana community members from many different backgrounds, all working together to achieve our vision of a more engaged and united community, through art.

Rachel brought incredible talent, care, and dedication to the restoration of the Viva Santa Ana Mural. She took on the restoration of the labor worker portraits from the historic Flores Family orange pickers of Barrio Logan, approaching the work with deep respect for the history, symbolism, and lived experiences represented within the mural.

Rachel truly took the restoration to heart, making sure each portrait was restored authentically, with love, pride, and attention to detail. Her portrait work was absolutely beautiful and helped bring renewed life and dignity to these important community figures. We were so lucky to have Rachel on our team and are deeply grateful for the artistry and heart she brought to this project. 🍊🎨✨

Linda brought so much heart, culture, and artistic vision to the restoration of the La Virgencita Mural. Coming from the Delhi neighborhood — a community that also deeply celebrates and honors La Virgencita — she immediately connected to the importance of the mural and took charge of restoring the Virgencita portrait herself.

Linda did an incredible job bringing the image back to life, carefully restoring details, colors, and expression while adding her own thoughtful Santanera touches, including the iconic hoop earrings as a symbol of pride, identity, and culture. Her love for her community and Chicano culture was evident throughout the entire process, reflected not only in her artistry but also in her professionalism, dedication, and care for the mural’s meaning.

We are so grateful to have had Linda on our team and proud of the beautiful work she contributed to preserving this important community mural. ✨🕊️🎨

Priscilla played an important role in the restoration of the Viva Santa Ana Mural by taking on the restoration of the Chinese American railroad worker portraits — a powerful and important part of the mural’s history and storytelling. She approached the work with deep care and intention, focusing on bringing the portraits back to life while honoring the history, labor, and legacy represented in the images.

Extremely talented and self-guided, Priscilla worked with confidence, professionalism, and dedication throughout the restoration process. Her artistic skill and commitment to the project were evident in every detail she restored. We absolutely loved having her on our team and are so grateful for the care, talent, and respect she brought to this important community mural. 🚂🎨✨

Jeslyn did an incredible job helping restore the La Virgencita Mural, especially through her beautiful in-painting work on the new monarch butterfly additions. Her shading, attention to detail, and careful hand brought so much depth and life to the mural. She also helped restore flowers and added many important details that helped tie the composition together beautifully.

Jeslyn may have been a quiet worker, but her focus, dedication, and talent spoke loudly through her art. She approached the restoration process with care and commitment, always giving thoughtful attention to every section she worked on. We absolutely loved having Jeslyn on our team and are so grateful for the talent and dedication she brought to this important community mural. 🦋🌸🎨
