Refocus, Look Again A public education campaign challenging the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use. Are you seeing clearly? Refocus and look again.

Refocus, Look Again is a public education campaign that was created by the Anti-Stigma Project to provide facts, questions and resources to help our community understand the stigma related to mental illness and substance use. We believe that by using thought-provoking educational materials we can challenge commonly held misconceptions surrounding mental health and/or substance use and learn to see each other more clearly.

It’s International Stress Awareness Week (Nov 2–6), and this year’s theme couldn't be more important: “Shaping the Future of Stress and Wellbeing: Rehumanising the Workplace.”

Rehumanising the workplace means recognizing that our well-being, mental health, and recovery aren't separate from our work. They form the foundation of it.

That’s where Recovery Friendly Workplaces (RFW) come in. By fostering supportive environments for individuals in or seeking recovery, RFWs:

✨ Reduce workplace stigma around mental health & substance use.

✨ Lower chronic stress & burnout across teams.

✨ Build stronger, more resilient workplace cultures.

Ready to transform your workplace culture?

👉 Schedule a Stigma & Recovery Friendly Workplaces Workshop ([email protected]) and visit the MD Department of Labor (https://bit.ly/RFWMD) to learn more about implementing RFW practices in your organization.

Recovery is closer than you think.

53% of Americans know someone in recovery, up from just 38% in 2004!

That’s one of the powerful findings from America Is Ready for Recovery, a new national study by Faces & Voices of Recovery and Recovery Insights Lab.

Recovery is happening in our families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities every day.

Public attitudes are changing. Stigma is declining. Now it’s time for our policies, systems, and resources to catch up.

“There’s a lot of misunderstanding and stigma around self-harm and for me it was two-fold. The judgement and reaction from others was difficult to deal with, but I was also judging myself.”

As we begin discussing our TOQ on NSSI (nonsuicidal self-injury), Steven shares his lived experience of self-harm during a difficult time in his life, including his journey toward seeking help and the importance of tackling stigma around self-harm.
