Companions of Dorothy the Worker We accomplish this ministry by being active companions, living and participating with the people we serve; modeling Christ's love.

The Companions of Dorothy the Worker is an nonprofit ecumenical Christian community supporting the Q***r community and modeling God's love and faithful presence. The Companions of Dorothy the Worker is an ecumenical Christian community, dispersed or under one roof; encouraging each other and supporting each other in ministry; living by the work of our own hands; depending on God....
....as we strive to make God's love felt in the Q***r community, which has been marginalized by the Church and the World. We own as our patron the Blessed Dorothy Day. We dedicate our formation to the Venerable Anthony Turney (http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Rev-Anthony-Turney-champion-of-arts-and-gay-5616300.php), who was our supporter and protector. We are guided by Franciscan ideals and the spirituality and practice of our beguine foremothers. For information about the beguines, please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beguines_and_Beghards

"We can be responsible only for the action of the present moment but we can beg for an increase of love in our hearts that will vitalize and transform all our individual actions, and know that God will take them and multiply them, as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes" -Dorothy Day

Happy International Drag Day!

Today, MCC celebrates the art, the activism, and the absolute joy of drag!

From the frontlines of Stonewall to the altars of our churches, drag artists have long been the prophets, healers, and truth-tellers of our community. Through glitter, glamour, and fierce storytelling, drag challenges boundaries, speaks truth to power, and reflects the magnificent, creative spirit of the Divine.

We honor the drag queens, kings, things, and monarchs who teach us how to live authentically, boldly, and without apology. Thank you for bringing color to the world and reminding us that joy is a form of resistance.
