Yesterday, we welcomed NBC to Chicago Collegiate Charter School in Roseland as they filmed our music-based program for their Making A Difference segment!

For six years, MeMA-Music has partnered with Chicago Collegiate Charter School to engage students through music with purpose.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share our work and capture what happens when students are encouraged to think deeply, share their perspectives, and find their voices. Through music, we create opportunities for young people to connect what they hear and learn to their own lives, their communities, and the world around them.

We’re grateful to Chicago Collegiate Charter School for six years of partnership and to NBC for shining a spotlight on the difference that dedicated educators and community organizations can make in young people’s lives.

Before founding MeMA-Music, I spent 20 years as an executive in the music industry. That experience shaped my belief in music’s power to influence how we think, see the world, and understand ourselves.

15 years ago, I brought that belief into arts learning and youth development by founding MeMA-Music, using carefully selected, message-driven music as a tool for learning, critical thinking, self-reflection, and creative expression,

Today, our model goes beyond listening. We use music to build literacy, strengthen critical thinking and media analysis, explore history and contemporary issues, and examine complex themes. Young people connect what they learn to their own experiences, consider different perspectives, and develop their voices through reflection, discussion, and creative expression.

As Founder and President, I’m proud of what we’ve built over the past 15 years and excited about the opportunities ahead.

As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to bringing MeMA-Music to more schools and youth-serving organizations.
