Forgetting more names after 50 may be by design. New theory: your aging brain is trading recall for wisdom. Hearing for the Holidays: Tips, Tech, and Tactics for Better Connection

The holiday season brings joy. But noisy parties, clattering kitchens, and crosstalk at the dinner table can turn gatherings into an exhausting listening challenge. Gather for an interactive session is designed for people with hearing loss and the loved ones who celebrate with them. Led by a peer volunteer and hearing loss advocate from the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), this program bypasses medical jargon to focus on practical, real-world solutions. Through a brief visual presentation, helpful take-home guides, and an open, supportive group discussion, you learn how to conquer "dinner table syndrome" and reduce listening fatigue so you can stay fully connected to the people who matter most. Focus on smart communication strategies, practical ways to advocate for your hearing needs and handle fast-paced group conversations without feeling overwhelmed. Understand the tech advantage by taking a non-technical look at how to leverage smartphone apps, Bluetooth accessories (like remote mics), and assistive listening tech in lively rooms. Gain insights into environmental hacks, simple adjustments to seating, lighting, and background music that make hearing easier for everyone at the table. Learn about loved one tips; concrete ways family and friends can modify their speaking habits to ensure everyone is included in the holiday cheer. This program is for anyone whose hearing has changed, has trouble hearing, has tinnitus, wears hearing aids, is considering hearing aids or has cochlear implants, and the people who love them.
