The Stepping Stones are a Square Dance and Round Dance club in the middle peninsula, in Hartfield, VA in Middlesex County.

Our members are from the Williamsburg area, Mathews County, Middlesex County and Lancaster County. We hold dances the 1st & 4th Saturday of each month. Workshops (beginner classes) begin each September through May every Thursday night from 7 pm to 8:30. The single most important factor in dancing at our club is that YOU HAVE FUN! Come join us and I know you will leave having added 30+ new friends to your list.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Roland Pierce, who left us on January 21, 2026.

Roland was a beloved member of the
Stepping Stones Square Dance Club and truly one of those people who made everything-and everyone-better just by being there. He was always willing to help, no matter the task; picking up supplies, setting up and taking down tables and chairs, selling tickets, cleaning up-if something needed to be done, Roland was there without being asked.

He loved to dance and cherished the fellowship that comes with Square dancing. Even when he could no longer dance, Roland still came to every dance just to be with the dancers, to share in the laughter, and to enjoy the community he loved so much.

Roland was a genuinely kind man who would do anything for anyone. He will be missed more than words can say. But we take comfort in knowing that when it's our time, he'll be waiting for us- smiling- on the dance floor.

Ii is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and fellow dancer, Claudia Harrison, yesterday morning after a long illness. Claudia was a cornerstone of our club and a beloved member of square dance community.

She and Elbert founded the famous annual Beach Bash Square and Round Dance weekend in Nags Head, NC over 25 years ago- a tradition that brought dancers from near and far together and strengthened the bonds between our clubs.

Claudia will be rememberd for her kindness, her caring spirit, and the joy she brought to every event. She touched so many lives with her warmth and dedication, her legacy will live on in the friendships and memories she helped create.

As you look at these pictures, remember the fun we had together- the cruises, conventions, Christmas Parties, St Patrick's Day dances, back porch get
Togethers and so much more. But most of all, remember the laughter we shared. There is no better time than those spent with family and friends.

Please keep Elbert-our longtime Caller for the Stepping Stones Club- and their # family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate the difficult days ahead.
