🍂 Sometimes we can’t see where the path leads, but we can take the next step with faith. Trust that even when the way feels uncertain, God is walking beside you. Keep going, embrace the beauty along the way, and trust Him with in what lies ahead…❣️Susie

Friends of WIL ~ I’ll be stepping away from accepting donations and distribution from October 7 - 12 to rest, refuel, and allow God to restore what’s been poured out. Just as the seasons remind us of rhythm and renewal, this pause is part of my circle — a time to draw inward so I can return outward with strength and purpose.

Thank you for your continued prayers, support, and encouragement. I’m so grateful for each of you who help keep this big, beautiful circle moving in love and service. After this short time of restoration and organization, I look forward to jumping back in — ready for all that God has ahead this winter.
With gratitude and blessing,
❣️Susie

We live in a world that is quick to point out dirt but slow to offer a towel. Too often, “religion” has been used as a weapon—shaming people for the very places they are most in need of grace. But when we look at Jesus, we see something different.

On the night He was betrayed, He knelt with a basin and a towel. He didn’t scold His disciples for having dirty feet; He washed them. He didn’t demand they clean up before they could be in His presence; He made Himself low so they could be lifted up.

That’s the difference. Religion shames. Jesus restores. Religion says, “Get it together.” Jesus says, “Let Me help you.”

The challenge for us is this: are we more like religion or more like Jesus? Do we shame people for the dirt on their feet, or do we stoop down in love to wash them?

May we be a people who bend low, not to condemn, but to serve. A people who reflect the heart of Jesus—the One who sees the dirt and still draws close.

Who in your life needs less shame and more grace from you today?❣️Susie

One of the hardest things about loving people well is realizing that two people can look at the very same moment and see it completely differently.

Sometimes we have to choose the relationship over being right. We have to let go of pride, listen with an open heart, and be willing to say, “I’m sorry that my words hurt you,” even when our intention was never to hurt.

But I’m learning something else too - taking responsibility for someone’s hurt does not always mean taking responsibility for being wrong.

We can have good intentions and a good heart and still hurt someone. We can apologize without abandoning our own truth. We can care deeply about someone’s feelings without believing we are responsible for making sure they never have uncomfortable feelings.

Maybe loving people well means holding both ~
“I’m sorry you were hurt” and “I still see it differently.”

There is room for humility without self-erasure.
There is room for grace without surrendering our truth.
And there is room for two people who love each other to disagree—and still choose the relationship.

Because sometimes the most important thing isn’t proving who was right.

It’s making sure love has the final word…❣️Susie

In between hair clients I drove a carload of donations to one of the shelters we help. As I was unloading, I saw over my shoulder a young man walk up to my car. I was working on the bags in the back and he grabbed a large bag in the front seat. He walked around to the side of the car I was on, put the bag in one hand and extended the other. “Hi my name is Bruce. Is it ok if I help you unload?” I told him absolutely and a couple minutes later we were done. Bruce said, “you didn’t even flinch when I walked up on ya. That never happens with me especially around women. You don’t scare easy I take it.” I laughed and told him that was a loaded question. I shared with Bruce about WIL and the 13 years of going into what most people think are “scary places” He said, “you don’t seem like you have a death wish you must be a little crazy!” “Well, there is that!” I said 😜 and we both laughed. I shared with Bruce what I’ve shared with many of you. “I have met some of the most amazing people in the last 13 years. I have heard many heartbreaking stories but there has also been so much beauty in the ashes. Spending time sharing life and hearing people’s stories has been such a blessing in my life. I call it circle drawing.” Bruce said, “well technically I drew the circle because I walked up on you!” “That you did Bruce!”🤣 Before I left I told him something I have said many times as I’ve sat with people broken by life - “please make sure you don’t start seeing yourself through the eyes of those who don’t value you. Know your worth Bruce even if they don’t. I know God has a plan for your life and it’s a good one. First you must believe it.” We said goodbye and Bruce said “bye crazy Susie”🤣😂 well, I have been called worse…😜

🚗……Javier stopped me to ask about my hat….

He recognized the song lyric and smiled. We laughed about it, and then he looked at the hat again and said, “It’s too big for your head.” 😂

Then his eyes moved to my little red Mini Cooper, overflowing with bags for a local shelter.

“What’s in all those bags?” he asked. Then, jokingly, “Is there anything in there for me?”

As we talked, Javier shared a little of his own story. He grew up poor, but he never went without what he truly needed. There was always food on the table and a roof over his head.

When he was younger, though, he resented the hand-me-down clothes. He wanted what other kids had. But now, looking back, he recognizes the sacrifices his parents made just to make sure he had “a couple changes of clothing.”

That’s when I shared something God placed on my heart years ago, when my own children were growing up:

Somewhere, right now, in this very moment, someone is praying for something I take for granted.

A coat. A meal. A pair of shoes. A safe place to sleep. Something so ordinary to me that I might not even think twice about it.

I watched that thought land with Javier.

Maybe because he suddenly saw his own childhood through a different lens—not simply through what he didn’t have, but through everything his parents sacrificed to make sure he had what he needed.

And I think that is why I do what I do through Wrapped in Love.

It isn’t really about bags of clothing or donations.

It’s about perspective.

It’s about recognizing that what feels ordinary to one person may feel like an answered prayer to another.

And it’s about giving those things wrapped in love—so the person receiving them knows they weren’t forgotten or overlooked.

They were seen.

They mattered.

Maybe that’s what drawing circles really means to me: not just making room for people, but helping all of us see one another a little differently.

Sometimes a circle begins with a silly comment about a hat being too big.

And sometimes, if we’re willing to listen, it ends with two people seeing their lives—and each other—a little more clearly...

At the shelter, I crossed paths with someone who carries a reputation for being harsh and ungrateful. I caught myself wanting to avoid him—just like so many others do. But in that moment, God reminded me of my own prayer: to love without growing tired.

And He gave me a glimpse of His heart. A heart that doesn’t turn away when we are bitter, selfish, or unkind. A heart that still loves us under every circumstance—even when we break it.

Here’s the encouragement: you don’t have to feel love to show it. God’s Spirit equips us to love when it’s hardest.

Here’s the challenge: this week, sit at the table with your “Judas.” See them not for how they treat you, but for how Christ has chosen to love them.

And let’s be honest—this isn’t easy, especially in the world we’re living in, where rejection, division, and hardness of heart are everywhere. But it has never been more important. Because every act of love in the name of Jesus becomes light in the dark… ❣️Susie

Fall has finally arrived. My favorite of all the seasons. The beautiful colors, the smell of the air, the still warm days ending with cool evenings, all of it. Fall has always felt comfortable to me - an old friend. I look at all the vibrant colors of the leaves that paint the most beautiful scenes followed by “falling” and the emptiness of the trees they leave behind. I guess I identify with all that Fall symbolizes in my own life. We all have such beautiful moments in our lives - seasons of overwhelming joy but inevitably these mountaintop times are followed by times spent in the valley. Sometimes it feels so painful we grieve these changes as a death. The older I get the more I appreciate the necessity of these transformations. This to me is the visible difference of living versus existing. The beauty of the green tree in the Summer and the cool shade that it provides is appreciated even more after the barren cold of the Winter and the sweet budding of Spring. As I embrace all that is Fall, knowing that Winter will follow, I am reminded of the “seasons” of life. Fall represents my gratitude for all the changes of life - the necessary changes. This Fall I challenge you to embrace all the beauty that you embody but prepare to let go of the things that no longer serve a purpose in who you are becoming. I think we are here to continually outgrow ourselves. I’m ready, are you?

I met Gabby and her daddy at the gas station yesterday. They were on the opposite pump of me. As I was filling my tank I overheard their conversation. “The card goes in right here?” “Yes Gabby right there.” “Ok then lift this and press that button?” “You got it babygirl!” “Be careful you don’t pull that lever when putting in the tank until after the nozzle is in remember?” “I know daddy that made a big mess!” Both busted out laughing. Since my gas was pumping itself😉I had to peak over. I told Gabby what a helper she was and she said this, “my daddy showed me how to do this when I was little (she’s 9🤣). He said it’s important I learn how to do things for myself. Not that someone can’t help me but I won’t NEED their help. He told me it’s not a boy/girl thing but independence.” Well done dad! I told Mark how much I appreciate the approach he is taking with Gabby. I shared that I had done so much for my own children because I just loved being a mom but I made the mistake of not nurturing their independence. With the knowledge I had at the time I did what made my heart happy but I’m grateful my lack of understanding didn’t cripple them. I am not beating myself up but when you know better you must do better and when you see it being done so beautifully you should acknowledge it. So I gave Gabby a fist-pump and shook her dads hand and told them both to “keep up the good work!” I love that God is still teaching me and I am capable of growing and changing. My sweet grandbabies and their generation is counting on all of us to do the same…❣️Susie

I’m learning that walking with God isn’t about having it all together. It’s about being humble enough to say, “Lord, show me where I need to grow, soften what has become hard, and protect me in the places where I can’t see clearly.”
I want to keep serving from love, not from a need to be loved. I want to be a light, but I also need to remember that I am human, still healing, still learning, and still in need of His grace.
Lord, keep working in me. Fix what needs fixing, protect what needs protecting, and help me ABIDE in You through it all…❣️Susie
