This is never a post I imagined writing. Honestly, I had such unwavering faith that we could continue to succeed, but the reality is, we simply can’t anymore.
Hanks Legacy Foundation will officially close on December 31st, 2026. Hanks has been my entire world for the past five years, and the prospect of this chapter closing is incredibly difficult.
I believe the beginning of our decline was when I moved away. We had already noticed a decline in engagement, foster placements, donations, and so on, but I never anticipated the rapid deterioration of our LA program when I relocated north.
I’m exhausted. My team is exhausted. Since we opened, we’ve rescued and placed over 850 animals. We’ve faced a whirlwind of challenges, including parvo, insane amounts of puppies, amputations, complex medical cases, behavior dogs, and many other issues. I love what this organization does. I’ve cherished the people I’ve met, the friends I’ve made, and the animals we’ve saved. HLF has been more than just a nonprofit I started; it’s been my heart and soul.
We still have 16 dogs and 6 cats waiting for their forever homes. We will honor our commitment to them and ensure their safety until we find them their forever homes or other rescues. This means we still need your financial support to continue caring for these animals. We need food, medical care, and supplies.
Hanks is closing, but our nonprofit isn’t over. We’re undergoing a transformation, rebranding, and rediscovering how we can make a meaningful impact. More details will follow, and I promise that this next chapter will be just as exciting.
To Sarah, thank you for seeing the vision with me and embarking on this journey with me.
To Jen, you did more than anyone else could have. You’re an animal warrior, and I love you.
To those who supported me, thank you for believing in me.
To my donors, you were my lifeline. Your unwavering faith in me was truly remarkable.
To my adopters, I want to express my deepest gratitude. Thank you for recognizing the love these animals had to offer you. Your actions have shown me that there are incredible people out there who are willing to make the right choices.
To my fosters, I will never be able to repay you for the time, love, and countless hours you dedicated to these animals. You, and you alone, have had a profound impact on their lives.
Please don’t stop sharing our animals just because we are closing. The dogs and cats still in our care need your help to be seen and loved. Our mission is not over simply because we are changing.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Hug your furry companions, express your gratitude to the universe, and cherish every moment you have.
