DID YOU KNOW? 🤔

The saliva of mammals such as cats, dogs and even humans is dangerous to our feathered companions. It can, and sadly often does, kill them. ☠☢☠

Our saliva, as well as the saliva of other mammals, contains what is known as ‘gram-negative bacteria’. Gram-negative bacteria are a specific type of bacteria that can cause infections throughout the body. E.coli is an example of a gram-negative bacterium.

This type of bacteria can be present in our bodies and, in normal amounts, is harmless. Our bodies are well equipped to fight and protect against the infections caused by this type of bacteria.

Parrots, on the other hand, DO NOT have any gram-negative bacteria present in their systems and are not able to fight them off. 🤒

Care must be taken to avoid spreading potentially fatal bacteria to your parrot, whether that is allowing them to share your utensils or trying to re-enact that scene from Lady and the Tramp.

We also strongly advise that other pets are never left unsupervised with a parrot because of the numerous risks involved, including the spread of gram-negative bacteria that is present on their bodies and in their saliva.

It only takes one lick from a friendly dog or cat to kill your bird.

Leave it to the parrots! 🦜😍

Those of you that follow me know that I talk a lot about choice, and how we take it away from the birds in captivity, and that I like to give them some options when I can. Here is a simple example of giving options to Bubba.

So here is Dr. O explaining how to trim a scissor beak, and also what we can do to help make it better. I have had great success doing the exercises with others, and I will post a separate video tomorrow demonstrating how I do it with Bubba

For every five dollar donation to the rescue, you will get your name put into a drawing for this. If you donate $25, six tickets will be put in the raffle.
When I have raised $500, I will do the drawing.
This will include shipping, all of the stainless steel hardware that you choose, the exact size you want, up to 24”inches long, the height will just depend on the type of bird.
You can have a perch if wanted, and one acrylic toy, made by bell plastic bird toys. There are four choices, see photo below.
The thickness will be based on the type of bird, we have food grade polycarbonate at 4/16, 1/4, and for large/destructive ones we have a half inch acrylic. I am including some photos of ones we have here. So for birds that like to destroy things, take cages apart, etc. these are perfect as they can maneuver latches, bolts, and wing nuts without them coming off. 
There are also lots of places to hang different toys, so it’s not just the stainless steel that can be available on here, but pretty much anything you want.

I was graciously asked by Justice to share some of my tricks, thoughts, and experiences when you have parrots that are either extremely difficult to handle whether they’re fearful or have aggression tendencies, and you do not have the luxury of time to shape things.
