💔 When we tell you we CANNOT make this stuff up…
We were headed home to go trick-or-treating with the kids. Or so we thought.
Then we got a call about a dog TIED TO A GATE down SR 630 in Fort Meade. Literally in the middle of NOWHERE. Not a single house for miles.
We dropped everything and headed straight to her.
When we arrived, we met the family who found her and an awesome Polk County sheriff’s deputy who was just as upset as we were. He told us he hoped she was microchipped so he could identify and arrest the person who did this. We can only hope whoever is responsible is held accountable.
We get calls about dumped dogs every single day. But when someone tells you a dog is TIED to a gate in a place like this, your stomach drops.
No food. No water. Barely a foot of room to move.
She couldn’t go looking for water or wander toward someone’s house for help. She was stuck there, completely dependent on somebody noticing her and stopping.
This isn’t an area with heavy traffic. We have absolutely no idea how long she had been there. Thankfully, this family saw her. 💔
And this girl? She’s young, appears healthy, and has been absolutely fantastic with people. She’s beyond playful, and she is STUNNING. A beautiful retriever mix whose introduction to us was being untied from a gate someone left her attached to.
Make it make sense.
🐾 Crossed Paws is beyond full. We quite literally have NO open kennels and NO available fosters. We’ve already gotten creative with the limited space we have while we work to get our adoption center open.
But we couldn’t leave her there. We just couldn’t.
She came with us, and she is safe tonight.
Thank you to the family who stopped and made sure she got help, and to the deputy who cared about what happened to her. We are so grateful you were there. 💙
Please share. If you recognize her or have information about how she ended up there, please contact us.
There is NO excuse for tying a dog to a gate in the middle of nowhere and driving away.
