Driftwood Dramatics is holding rehearsals/practices for their Improv Comedy show.
What's Improv, you ask? Improv is short for Improvisation, an acting form where the actors get a few prompts, sometimes from the audience, and then make everything up It's a lot of fun for both the actors and the audience. If you've ever seen "Whose Line is it Anyway?" then you've seen Improv.
But if it's all made up, why do you need to rehearse?
Several reasons. First, in order to be an effective Improv Comedy Troupe, the actors all have to be familiar with each other and have a working rapport. They need to build trust and learn each other's strengths and weaknesses. Second, there are rules to Improv that help to give it structure and to encourage the actors to work together. And finally, our brand of Improv Comedy centers around the cast playing Improv "games" that have an existing structure. These games are often supplemented by suggestions from the audience to make them fresh, interesting, and challenging each time. And to use the games effectively, you need to learn the games and practice them.
So thats's what we're doing, practicing Improv and building trust with our castmates
Our end goal is to eventually perform our Improv games in front of live audiences, hopefully, starting late spring or early summer.
Sound interesting? Would you like to join us? Great, we'd love to have you whether you're experienced at Improv or have never tread foot on a stage. All over 18 are welcome.
Rehearsals/Practices are at 7:00 on Thursdays in the Odin Room at Fitzgibbon Meadery (536 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117).
