This month, we shine a light on lipedema, a chronic tissue disorder that affects women worldwide. Despite its prevalence, lipedema is often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or dismissed, leaving many to struggle for years without answers.

Awareness leads to recognition.
Recognition leads to diagnosis.
Diagnosis leads to support and treatment.

Throughout June, we will be sharing educational resources, patient experiences, and ways you can help advocate for those living with lipedema. Together, we can increase understanding, reduce stigma, and help ensure that no one faces this journey alone.

Let’s Connect!
We would love to hear from you! What are some positive ways connecting with others has helped you on your journey?

Over the past decade, online support through virtual groups and social media has greatly expanded access to resources, education, and community.

For me, when I first heard the word lipedema 12 years ago and received my diagnosis, explaining it to others often meant pointing out our differences just to help people somewhat understand. In 2014, I joined two early lipedema groups, Lipedema Sisters and Lipedema Fitness, each with fewer than 500 members at the time. For the first time, I could recognize shared experiences instead of focusing on what set me apart.
Attending and presenting at the FDRS Conference in 2016 was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It gave me the opportunity to build meaningful, in-person connections. Twelve years later, many of those relationships remain strong, and some have become lifelong friendships, people who understand in a way that is both rare and deeply meaningful.

What an incredible gift that has been.

I tag Aladdin-Albakaye our treasurer to share in the comments!!!

April 4th is Dercum’s Disease Awareness Day 🧡

What is Dercum’s disease?
Dercum’s disease is a rare disorder that causes multiple, painful fatty growths called lipomas. These growths can press on nearby nerves, leading to chronic pain that can deeply affect daily life. Dercum's most often occurs in adults and is more common in women

Today is about compassion, awareness, and connection.
We stand with everyone living with Dercum’s.

Your experiences matter, your voices matter, and you are not alone 🧡
