What are Family Conversation Kits?

Our Goal: To build in our youth an understanding of and empathy for people who are different from them, paving the way for a more equitable, welcoming community.

Our Story: Family Conversation Kits came from concerned citizens just like you who saw inequities in our community and nation. We were inspired by the research showing children can internalize stereotypes and biases by the time they enter school. We come from a welcoming community where families WANT to have conversations with their children about diversity and equity, but many adults hesitate because they don't know where to start or are afraid they will say the wrong things. Family Conversation Kits are resources that help families to begin or continue important lifelong conversations about diversity and equity with confidence.

How Our Kits Work: Our team personally reads and reviews hundreds of books to select the best 2-3 titles for each edition and those titles are paired with a helpful guide. We offer different editions for different stages which contain books and information that are just right for that age group: Early Childhood, Young Readers, and Tweens & Teens. Each kit also focuses on one specific facet of diversity. Our currently available kits focus on Asians and Latinxs.
