WHAT IS THIS STUFF IN OUR MANGROVES?! 😂🛞

Last Tuesday we found what appears to be the remains of something with tires (your guess is as good as ours), a wooden chair, a 55 gallon drum, a car tire, a couple of paddles, and pieces of a fiberglass boat - all pulled from Cow Key Channel by just 2 volunteers!!

Daniel and Devin made out like TRASH BANDITS on October 20th, tucking into the channel and letting the mangroves block the wind while the crew powered through 341 lbs of pure trash - not even a pound of lobster line in the haul!!

Islands closer to land hold a very different kind of debris than the ones further out, and Cow Key Channel did not disappoint.

Two returning volunteers, 1.5 hours in the mangroves, and 341 lbs gone from these waters. Another great Tuesday!! 💙

525 lbs total including 2,688 feet of trapline and 3 tires - and a birthday celebration at the sandbar that our new friend Susan will never forget!! 💙

Les and Mary led 7 returning CRMA volunteers out of Isla Bella Beach Resort on October 17th - and this group came with a level of passion and dedication that stopped us in our tracks!! When it was time to head back, every single volunteer asked if they could stay longer to keep cleaning!!

Happy Birthday Susan - thank you for spending it with us!! 🧡

If you can’t come out to share your bday with us, you can still make a difference! Head to your Facebook birthday post, tap “Add Fundraiser,” search Conch Republic Marine Army, and give back to the Florida Keys on your special day!! Every dollar keeps our boats on the water!! 💙

1.25 TONS of debris and almost 2 MILES of trap line removed from the Florida Keys in a single week!! 🤩

Friday’s trip to Geiger Key with Daniel and Devin closed out one of the most productive weeks CRMA has ever had - 10 volunteers including Dr. Charlie Gregory from The College of the FL Keys pulled 512 lbs from the Geiger Key area including hundreds of lbs of line, buoys, plastics, a hard hat, and two 55 gallon containers!! 🕺

Geiger Key is proving to be an incredible spot for calm day cleanups - and there are mountains more to remove!!

Dr. Charlie’s connections through CFK are going to be a huge asset going forward and we are thrilled to have him in the army!! 💙

This is what showing up every single week looks like. Thank you to every volunteer who made this week possible.

If you’re looking for a new experience, want to learn about team trips, or just want to support the army, we appreciate you!! Head to conchrepublicmarinearmy.org or just like & share this post to create awareness for our Florida Keys nonprofit with a mission to clean and restore our mangroves. 🫶

Most of these kids had never been on a boat before October 16th - and CRMA made sure their first time was one they’ll never forget!! 🥹🌊💙

8 students and 2 teachers from Horace O’Bryant School joined us out at the mangrove islands by Geiger Key for a hands-on marine debris removal experience - sponsored by the Key West Police Department using funds from their forfeiture fund!!

247 lbs pulled from the mangroves including another trashaconda, 208 feet of rope, a 55 gallon drum, and one very mysterious large white thing that had everyone stumped!! 😂 The kids jumped right in and were absolutely amazed by what they found!!

After a HOT day in the mangroves the crew rinsed off at a sandbar - where a manatee casually swam by like it knew exactly what kind of day these students needed!! 🥹

A huge thank you to Karen and BG for arranging such a magical day and to the [email protected] for making it possible!! This is conservation education at its finest 💙

Three generations on the water and 660 lbs pulled from the Marathon mangroves - now THAT’S a family outing!! 🌊💙

Les and Devin led 8 volunteers out of Isla Bella Beach Resort on October 14th - including our beloved regulars Sandra and Jean, a local and their friend visiting from California, and Ken who brought his 3 grandkids along for the ride!!

Together they hauled in 660 lbs including 2 lobster traps and 2,944 feet of trapline - nearly half a mile of line out of these waters in a single trip!!

Ken’s grandkids got a firsthand look at what’s hiding in these mangroves and why it matters - and we have a feeling they’ll be back!! 💙

If you’re in the Keys for Fantasy Fest In Key West, FL and looking for the perfect way to see a side of the Florida Keys most people never get to experience - join us on the water!! Cleanups run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday and it’s always free!Link in bio to sign up. 🧡

Taking out the papers and the trash - including a mermaid tail and 598 lbs from one tiny cove!! 🧜

Daniel and Devin teamed up with the Roberta DePiero crew to tackle the mangrove islands opposite Thompson Island in Key West on October 13th - and with just 3 volunteers they may have set a new CRMA record for best weight to volunteer ratio ever!!

They found a big anchor, 2 outboard motors, pressure treated wood, loads of plastic, and yes, a mermaid tail!! And they’ve only covered about 1/5 of the area!!

We’re going back next Tuesday and possibly the one after that too - link in bio to join us!! 🧡

We found an anaconda in the Ohio Key mangroves!! 🐍😂

Don’t worry - it’s what our crew calls a giant ship rope, but it was absolutely massive!!

Duane and Ann led 6 locals out to Ohio Key on a blustery day last Friday and Ohio Key did not disappoint.

363 lbs of trash including 4,096 feet of trapline and one very large “anaconda” pulled from the mangroves!!

The high tides worked in our favor giving us access to areas we couldn’t normally reach - and this crew powered through the wind and waves like the veterans they are!!

Ohio Key keeps revealing more every single trip and we keep showing up for it!! 🙌

Who’s ready to ENLIST in our next cleanup?! Head to the link in our bio and save the date for our annual membership drive starting next month - help us beat our number from last year!

This is a tough one - Captain Honey Bunny and Deckhand Honey, we are going to miss you so much!! 🥹

At the end of October we will be saying see you later to two of the most incredible people to ever step foot on a CRMA boat - Duane and Ann!!

For those who don’t know the story, Anne had a habit of calling Duane “honey” out on the water, which evolved into “Captain Honey” - and naturally, “Deckhand Honey” followed. What can we say, CRMA has always been a bit of a family show!! 😂

Duane and Ann are staying right here in the Florida Keys and launching their own charter boat company - and we could not be more excited for them!! CRMA was lucky to be part of their journey and we have no doubt they are going to be incredible!!

They’re not gone for good though - we fully expect to see them back on the water as volunteers!! Once you’re part of this army, you never really leave!! 💙

Wishing you fair winds and calm seas, Captain Honey Bunny and Deckhand Honey. Thank you for everything!! 🧡
