As we come up on cold, flu and apparently, formerly eradicated disease season, here’s a friendly reminder from our trusted source of medical information.

Vaccines save lives. Period. 💉🩺

An 18-year-old in Pennsylvania has died from complications associated with measles, marking the fourth measles-related death reported this year. Health officials say the teen was unvaccinated and died from a rare neurological complication of measles.

The United States has not recorded four measles deaths in a single year since 1992.

Measles isn’t just a bad rash, it can lead to pneumonia, brain swelling, and in rare cases, serious neurological complications like the one that took this teen's life. The MMR vaccine remains one of the most effective tools we have against it, with two doses providing 97% protection and a safety record spanning more than six decades.
Every child deserves protection from vaccine-preventable diseases. Talk with your pediatrician to make sure your family is up to date on the MMR vaccine.

As heart parents, many of our followers know all too well the feeling of the defining moment their lives changed. But on this day 25 years ago, the entire world experienced one of those moments, one that changed everything for everyone…forever.

On this day, take time to remember what we can never forget 💔🇺🇸🏙️

Once again, thank you to the Young Lawyers Division of the Lackawanna Bar Association for the incredible May event they hosted for our benefit. Thank you to Atty. Katie Engles for nominating JOH, to all members who coordinated one heck of a happy hour, and to everyone who attended, sponsored and donated. It takes a village, and we are grateful for ours 🥰 - and for this check! 💰💰😍

On July 4, 1826 — exactly 50 years after the Declaration of Independence — John Adams died of a heart attack in Massachusetts. Thomas Jefferson died the same day, just hours earlier, at Monticello. 🇺🇸

Two founding fathers. Same day. Same anniversary. And in 1826, no way to actually see what was happening inside the heart.

Fast forward 200 years: echocardiography lets us watch the heart in real time: ejection fraction, wall motion, valve function, all in minutes. What took centuries of guesswork is now a 45 minute study.

This 4th of July, we’re grateful for how far cardiac diagnostics have come and for the sonographers and cardiologists that are improving patient outcomes every day. 🫀

Oh, you know…just transporting our latest JOH addition to its new home 😍

Because when you’re a cardiac sonographer and your office equipment gets an upgrade, there’s only one thing to do with the older echo machine🙌 That’s right, donate it to a nonprofit who will use it for educational demonstrations, hands-on learning, and most importantly, in screening events for sudden cardiac death prevention.

Life lesson: it never hurts to ask 😉

Take a minute, close your eyes and imagine…
❤️ Being aware that something exists, but not really thinking about it much unless it affects you personally
🧡 Not getting a “choice” in the life you live, it’s just how and who you are and it’s part of your being
💛Sometimes feeling less than others only because you are different from what’s considered typical
💚Raising awareness of these differences, because every time you share your story it has the potential to help someone else
🩵Pushing for inclusivity, because even though it may make some uncomfortable or defensive, it is paving a way for a future where differences are accommodated rather than dismissed
💙Recognizing that life is short and precious, and isn’t what’s most important living one that is worth it?
💜Realizing that every single one of us knows a person who is someone, loves someone or has lost someone that is affected 🩷

Now open your eyes.

Am I talking about congenital heart defects? 💔

I am not.

Be the change you want to see in the world❤️‍🩹

Lovely luncheon with ladies in red💃…and a few lucky guys 😍

The incredible people, the inspiring stories and the shared purpose at these events truly fuel my fire. Donated more of our JOH fundraising dollars to the Open Your Heart portion of the program (hosted by a fellow heart mom 🥰), and celebrated the successes of 2026 American Heart Association - Pennsylvania Impact Campaign winners Nathan Scarfo and Maria Scopelliti-Rand.

Heart Walks are typically big, chaotic (in a good way 😉), crazy events where it’s sometimes hard to get to see everyone you want to, have meaningful conversations and personally connect. But THAT is where the magic happens 🥰

Love this captured moment. You never know the impact you may have on another. It reminded me of one of my very favorite stories, so I thought I’d share 🩷

THE STARFISH STORY
While walking along a beach, an elderly man saw a young boy in the distance who was picking up starfish off the sand and gently tossing them back into the ocean.

As he neared the boy, the man smiled and said, “Why are you throwing starfish back into the water?”

The boy replied, “The sun is up, and the tide is going out; if I don’t throw them back in, they’ll die.”

The man commented, “But, son, don’t you realize that many, many starfish have washed up along every mile of this beach? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The boy listened politely. He then bent down, gently picked up another starfish, and tossed it past the breaking waves.

“Sir,” he replied, “I made a difference to that one.”

Amazing how one quick snapshot can hold so much heart. Jaxon and Dave met for the first time at the Greater Susquehanna Valley Heart Walk and instantly bonded as survivors. Couldn't walk with us? You can still support Jaxon, Dave, and all our heart and stroke heroes. http://spr.ly/6183BDGiNx
