The Speech of Assyrians for Justice (AFJ) The Host of this Event delivered by Sam Darmo, President and Founder of Assyrians for Justice, at the groundbreaking ceremony of the historic and largest Assyrian Simele Massacre Complex in the world.

The speech addressed the following important points:

Welcoming and honoring all distinguished dignitaries and guests in attendance.

Providing a brief historical account of the Assyrian Simele Massacre of 1933, including the suffering and displacement endured by the Assyrian people.

Calling for full and official recognition of the Assyrian Simele Massacre by the Government of Iraq, including recognition of the right of return for Assyrians who were forcibly displaced from Iraq in 1933, as well as full compensation for the lands confiscated from them and for the immense suffering endured by their parents, grandparents, and generations that followed.

Calling upon the Assyrian Members of the Iraqi Parliament to introduce and advocate for a formal resolution recognizing the Assyrian Simele Massacre before the Iraqi Parliament.

We extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to H.E. President Masoud Barzani for his leadership and support in making this historic complex a reality. The establishment of this complex represents an important step toward preserving the memory of the victims and ensuring that the history and suffering of the Assyrian people are remembered by future generations.

A Historic Moment for the Assyrian People

It is also important to note that, for the first time, the Assyrian National Anthem was played in Nohadra at an official public event attended by officials from the Kurdistan Regional Government, as well as Assyrian and other Christian dignitaries.

This historic moment carries profound significance for the Assyrian people. It honors the memory of those who lost their lives, recognizes the suffering of those who survived, and reinforces the importance of preserving Assyrian history, identity, and heritage for generations to come.

Deeply saddened by the passing of former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl—a man of profound integrity who served Arizona and the United States with unwavering dedication.

Senator Kyl was a true friend to the Assyrian community in Arizona. Through our several meetings with him, his genuine care for our community always shone through. He was a steadfast champion who actively defended Assyrians and other Christians facing terrorist persecution in Iraq, and he strongly advocated for proper Assyrian representation on the Iraqi Governing Council.

We have lost a great friend and a dedicated statesman. May our Lord Jesus Christ rest his soul in heavenly peace.

For many years, we at Assyrians for Justice have watched as falsified Assyrian history was authored by both Assyrians and non-Assyrians alike. Some of these writers produced books driven by animosity toward our brave martyrs and true patriots, born from a miserable failure to positively impact our nation, or motivated by the persistent vice of favoring narrow tribal interests over the Assyrian nation itself.

We strongly believe that the Assyrian nation deserves to know its authentic history, just like any other nation in the world. As Winston Churchill observed, "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Therefore, we have decided to release hundreds of previously unpublished documents—primary sources written by the history-makers themselves, rather than by biased and discredited chroniclers.

Today, we are releasing a vital and historic 16 page letter dated August 24, 1924, written by the late Benyamin Arsanis and addressed to the late Surma D’Mar Shimun. This document will not be watermarked, and everyone is free to share it.

We urge Dr. Sargon Hasso to translate this Letter to English and Arabic.

Our next document release will center on the historical Assyrian school under the authority of H.H. Mar Shimun, Catholicos Patriarch of the East, in Mosul, Iraq. Assyrians will finally discover who truly established this institution, who appointed the principal and teachers, and much more.
