A little kindness goes a long way, both online and in everyday life. Before hitting post, take a moment to think about how your words might make someone feel, respect others’ privacy, and remember that kindness always matters.

Let’s all do our part to make the online world a little kinder.💙

Our Executive Director, Cara, had a great week in Jefferson City at the annual CAC Directors Retreat! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow directors from across Missouri, share ideas, and learn from one another.

We’re thankful to the Missouri Network Against Child Abuse for bringing everyone together and creating space for meaningful connections, shared experiences, and a little fun along the way. The ghost tour at the Missouri State Penitentiary was certainly a memorable highlight!

“Will this make things worse for them?”

It’s a question we hear often when a child needs a medical exam after suspected abuse.

And we understand why. When a child has already been through something difficult, the thought of another unfamiliar experience can feel scary.

But the truth is, a medical exam can be an important part of helping a child heal.

Our nurses are specially trained to care for children with compassion, patience, and understanding. They help make an experience that may seem frightening from the outside feel safe and reassuring for the child.

And sometimes, the most reassuring thing a child can hear is:

“Your body is okay.”

The exam can help children understand that their body is still theirs. That they are safe. That they are cared for.

And when medical care is needed, the exam can help identify injuries or health concerns and connect the child with the care they need.

For a child who may be carrying fear and uncertainty, having a caring nurse gently explain what is happening and reassure them about their body can be incredibly meaningful.

Today, we want to give a special thank you to our nurses, Stephanie and Anne!

Thank you for the compassion you show.
Thank you for the patience you give.
Thank you for helping children feel safe.
And thank you for reminding every child who walks through our doors that their body matters, their health matters, and they matter.

A medical exam doesn’t have to be another frightening experience. It can be a moment of reassurance, care, and healing.

And we’re so grateful to Stephanie and Anne for being there to make that possible. 💙

October is full of costumes, spooky stories, and harmless tricks. But when it comes to what we post, share, comment, and send, a little kindness can go a long way.

This Bullying Prevention Month, we’re encouraging kids, teens, and the grown-ups who support them to POST KIND:

Pause before you post
Own your words
Speak up when something feels wrong
Tell a trusted adult

Keep personal information private
Include others
Notice when someone may need support
Don’t face it alone

Kids are still learning how to navigate friendships, conflict, boundaries, and communication, both online and off. Mistakes can become opportunities to talk, repair harm, practice empathy, and make a different choice next time.

Watch the video together, share it, and use it to start a conversation.

👻 The internet doesn’t need more tricks. Let’s make kindness the treat.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and at Kids’ Harbor, prevention is an important part of the work we do.

Our “No Tricks, You’re a Treat” Calendar gives children, teens, families, schools, and community members simple ways to practice kindness, inclusion, empathy, and speaking up throughout the month.

Bullying prevention is about more than telling kids to “be kind.” It is about creating environments where children feel safe, supported, heard, and valued, and where adults model the behaviors we want young people to carry with them.

Every child deserves to know they belong.

This October, choose a challenge from the calendar each day and help us build communities where children feel safe being exactly who they are!
