What were people doing the night before the world changed?

They were having dinner. Making plans. Sharing stories. Talking about tomorrow.

On September 10, 2001, no one knew what the next morning would bring.

Exactly 25 years later, Live Arts Maryland invites the Annapolis community to gather for a free screening of Daron Hagen’s 9/10: Love Before the Fall — a moving operafilm that looks at September 11 through a different lens: the lives being lived the night before.

Set over one evening in New York’s Little Italy, four friends gather for dinner, conversation, memories, and plans for the future. The audience knows what they cannot: all four work in the World Trade Center.

Rather than recreating the events of September 11, Hagen’s work asks us to remember the people behind the history — their friendships, their hopes, their ordinary moments, and the lives they were still living.

Following the screening, composer and filmmaker Daron Hagen will join the audience in person for a conversation about the film, its creation, and the art of “operafilm.”

There are moments when music gives us a reason to stop, listen, and remember what connects us. 🎶

This October, Live Arts Maryland opens its CONNECTIONS season with A Concert for Peace — a powerful evening of music exploring peace, compassion, remembrance, hope, and our shared humanity.

At the heart of the program is Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, an extraordinary work that journeys from conflict and loss toward reconciliation and hope.

Alongside it, works by Frank Ticheli, Edward Elgar, and Kim André Arnesen come together to create an evening that reminds us of the importance of kindness, compassion, and caring for one another.

It’s music meant to make you feel something.

To reflect.
To connect.
And to experience it together. ❤️

Great Things Are Happening at Live Arts Maryland

Today was a very special day at the Live Arts Maryland Studio!

We welcomed our neighbors from Fello for the first of our singing classes, led by Kristin Pagent and accompanied at the piano by Ken Kimble. We couldn’t have been happier with how the first class went or more excited about what this partnership can become.

Fello’s mission is centered on supporting people with disabilities in living the lives they choose, creating opportunities, building strong relationships, and fostering communities where everyone truly belongs. We are proud to play a small part in that mission by creating opportunities to experience the joy, connection, and community that come through making music together.

At Live Arts Maryland, we believe that music is for everyone. It brings people together, creates connections, builds confidence, and gives each of us another way to express ourselves and share something with those around us.

Today was just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where this partnership takes us.

Great things are happening at Live Arts Maryland, and today was another reminder that the power of music knows no bounds.

Thank you to Kristin, Ken, and everyone at Fello for making today so special. We can’t wait to sing together again!

Some artists leave us with songs. Others leave an imprint on the way we experience music. Dolly Parton did both. 🤍

Her unmistakable voice, remarkable storytelling and ability to find beauty, humor and truth in everyday life made her one of the great artists of our time.

Across decades, genres and generations, her music reminded us that a song can make us feel understood, bring us joy, carry us through difficult moments and connect us to one another.

Live Arts Maryland celebrates the extraordinary artistry and enduring legacy of Dolly Parton. We are grateful for a lifetime of music and for all the ways it will continue to be heard, performed and loved.

May the music play on. 🤍🎶

What if, for one evening, we simply came together and listened? 🎶

To music about peace. Hope. Compassion. And what it means to be human.

On October 10, Live Arts Maryland opens its new season with A Concert for Peace and this is one of those performances meant to be experienced live.

At the center of the evening is Karl Jenkins’ powerful The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, a work that takes us from the devastation of conflict and loss toward something we all continue to hope for: peace and reconciliation.

Alongside it, you’ll hear music by Frank Ticheli, Edward Elgar, and Kim André Arnesen — each exploring themes of remembrance, kindness, compassion, and our connection to one another.

Four extraordinary works.
One powerful message.
One night to experience it together. ❤️

🎭✨ Something exciting is taking the stage in Annapolis!

We are SO excited to partner with Compass Rose Theater and welcome their incredible upcoming season to the Live Arts Maryland Studio at Annapolis Mall! 🎶🎭 The shows ahead are going to be amazing, and we can already feel the energy building.

Our studio space continues to prove something we deeply believe: music and the performing arts can be found in unexpected places and they should be accessible throughout our community. ❤️

From music to theater and everything in between, we’re proud to keep opening our doors, creating connections, and making space for the arts right here in Annapolis.

This season is going to be something special. We can’t wait! 👏🎭🎶

As the Annapolis Mall embraces tenants that offer experiences, mallgoers have a new entertainment option: live theater.

Compass Rose Theater has announced the lineup for its 2026-2027 season, and three of the four shows will go up at the Live Arts Maryland performing space in the mall.
