Excerpt from my newly published by .

Truly Blessed tells a powerful visual story about a community’s response to discrimination, both racial and religious.

With a forward by Jeffrey Q. McCune, PhD, Frederick Douglass Professor of African-American Literature and Culture at the University of Rochester, an extensive interview with Chris Suspect by , host of The Candid Frame, and a testimonial by , Guggenheim Fellow, National Geographic Woman of Vision, Leica Medal of Excellence Recipient, and a member of VII Foundation, Truly Blessed uses photography to forge a conversation between the sacred Black church and secular sexual/erotic spaces, capturing sites where the body, mind, and spirit converge. It is a recognition of all that the discourse of the “sacred” attempts to extract, as well as a reminder of all the ways that sexual-secular-sacred trinity lives in the Black q***r world without apology and without need for permission.

I am super happy to announce that my journey with getting Truly Blessed out to the world has finally seen fruition!

10 years ago I happened upon an accident scene in Georgetown. This hip young Black man was sitting on top of a cab preventing it from leaving. His foot got run over and he waiting for the police to arrive. Naturally I took photos! 3 months later, Bilal Ali invited me to shoot a private party he was throwing. Little did I know it would lead to one of my most meaningful photo journeys.

Truly Blessed tells a powerful visual story about a community’s response to discrimination, both racial and religious.

McCune, PhD, Frederick Douglass Professor of African-American Literature and Culture at the University of Rochester, an extensive interview with Chris Suspect by Ibarionex Perello, host of The Candid Frame, and a testimonial by Maggie Steber, Guggenheim Fellow, National Geographic Woman of Vision, Leica Medal of Excellence Recipient, and a member of VII Foundation, Truly Blessed uses photography to forge a conversation between the sacred Black church and secular sexual/erotic spaces, capturing sites where the body, mind, and spirit converge. It is a recognition of all that the discourse of the “sacred” attempts to extract, as well as a reminder of all the ways that sexual-secular-sacred trinity lives in the Black q***r world without apology and without need for permission.
