Jefferson County Radio Amateur Club-KC2ELX Our monthly club meeting is on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm. During the winter, we may shift the meeting elsewhere and perhaps earlier.

Testing for a ham license is performed on a call basis. Once contacted about testing, we put together our Volunteer Examiners and set a date. We also are planning license exams classes.

Here are the minutes from last week’s meeting:
Jefferson County Radio Amateur Club (JCRAC)
October 10, 2026 JCRAC Meeting Notes

Present: Scott Siegfried, Kevin Benware, Scott Gleeson, Joe Burke, Don Patterson, Steve Long, Jeremy Stehlin, Nina Haskins, Steve Haskin, Perry Ferguson

This constitutes a quorum.

Call to Order:

The meeting started at 1004.

Minutes:

Last meeting’s minutes not dispensed.

Officer’s Reports:

President’s Report

Kevin B opened with the main topic of this meeting, which is the election of next year’s officers. The election proceeded with election of the following nominees: President; Joe Burke: Vice President; Tony Serio: Secretary; Scott Siegfried: Activities Director; Jeremy Stehlin.

Vice-President’s Report: Nothing.

Treasurer’s Report: Handed off post-meeting to Secretary. Budget is still insufficient to heat the building past October and cover Internet. Club costs ~$3K/year.

Secretary’s Report: Secretary had to investigate and update a few emails for those that were not receiving contacts.

Standing Committee and Special Committee Report(s): None

New Business

Jeremy wishes to develop a new activities list based on what people want from the club.

Old Business:

It was reiterated that the club has ongoing issues: building’s roof needs to be fixed, the power is not would on year-round, we have lost Internet, the driveway is not cleared of snow in the winter, we have equipment to sell (a new idea is our full tank), and antennae and other fixes to work on. We have a fuel oil tank we don’t use that we could tidy up and sell for possibly hundreds of dollars. We discussed the methods for advertising this including FACEBOOK Messenger (a mess?). In addition to having a fuel issue, the club has an insulation issue. Eventually we need to cover the windows. We will do so in the coming weeks using foam insulation boards.
Jeremy reminded us that he has the equipment and lives close enough to [sometimes] clear snow from the club’s driveway, and has enough metal to do ½ the roof. Jeremy has been working on finding donation sponsors for additional roof materials, maintaining our propane supply, potentially getting free setup of a 330 gallon tank for propane, at $1.25 a gallon, or even better – for free. We also discussed acquiring our own 500 gallon tank. This could provide the minimal heat (~50 F) for the clubhouse for 4 ½ months. Jeremy has plastic for covering the roof for protection over the coming winter. Some club members will be installing that next Saturday.

Perry asked if we could get a FCMP set up. We can’t do that without Internet.

Jeremy asked about 501 (c) 3 paperwork he would not for soliciting donations. Kevin B said the documents include a 1978 Determination Letter, W-9’s, recent 990’s. Kevin B also stated that the club has Amazon and EBay accounts.

ACTION ITEMS:

Scott S –
1) Set up a 3-person meeting with him, Jeremy, and Alex for an Activities Director information handoff.
2) Help Jeremy pursue donations.
3) Resume database inventory efforts.

Joe
1) Get important documents on a FACEBOOK tab
2) Schedule a Board meeting (LATER set up for next Saturday 10/17 at 10 AM at the club) plus Scott Gleeson and Kevin and possibly Alex as consultants.

Jeremy
1) Get all pertinent paperwork from Tony to demonstrate our 501 (c) 3 status for pursuing donations.
2) Pursue donations for propane, additional roof materials.

I know that we’re a good ways from North Carolina, I think we should put the word out, so as many hams as possible can see this.

JCRAC Club meeting will be continuing during the winter at the Watertown Flower Memorial Library on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 2pm.
We are considering moving the rest of the year to Saturdays at 10am, but only when we are at the clubhouse.
Often we have a raffle prize or a door prize.
Alex W3GNR, our Club Secretary has been instrumental in setting up a program at each meeting.

13/10/2022

News from JCRAC: Club officers elected for 2023 at President: Robert Jordan N5RKN, Vice President: Kevin Benware, KE4FSK Secretary: Alex MacKenzie, W3GNR Treasurer: Antony Serio. KD2AQY.
We ill be shutting down the clubhouse for the winter and meeting will be on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 2pm at the county library in Watertown. All and anyone are invited.

12/09/2022

A reminder to all: Club meeting tomorrow at 7pm at the clubhouse. Alex said his family is fighting Covid, so he will not be in attendance, but will try phoning in. He's going to try to complete edits on the proposed constitutional changes, what I did not get done. If that doesn't happen, I may call for a special meeting later to finish changes so that we can vote on those changes by October. ALSO....we need ideas for the 2023 club officers, also to bee voted on in October. Positions are: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, along with a few trustess or whatever. It will probably rains Saturday, so unfortunately, we won't be able to get the yard mowed, which needs done probably one more time before winter. Also needed is a flat-bed trailer to haul off the couch.
