🎣 LAKE OF THE WOODS FALL FISHING TRIP 🇺🇸

Last weekend, we returned to Lake of the Woods for some fall walleye fishing, a tradition that makes this our longest-running trip!

We stayed at Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods again this year, and their crew rolled out the red carpet with amazing meals and hospitality, just as they always do.

The wind kept us close to the river, but it didn’t stop us from catching plenty of fish and having a great time. Every Veteran headed home with a limit of Lake of the Woods gold! 🐟💛

There were some memorable catches along the way, too. A few anglers landed their first sturgeon, and a few reeled in personal-best walleye! Our mixed bag included walleye, sauger, northern pike, crappie, perch, sturgeon, bullhead, and burbot.

A big thank-you to the businesses that helped make this trip special:

Tutts Bait And Tackle for once again donating a rod and reel.
Lock Jaw Guide Service for donating a custom flag-wrapped rod for a giveaway.
Log Cabin Bait & Liquors for making sure we had all the bait we needed.
Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods for another year of wonderful meals and hospitality.
Outdoors Again for bait.
Adrian's Resort for live shiners.

Plenty of fish, a few personal bests, and another great weekend together on Lake of the Woods. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!

Thank you to the Veterans who joined us for a great weekend on the water, and to all Veterans for your service. We’re honored to give back through trips like these! 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 2026 FISHING WITH VETS PHEASANT HUNT 🇺🇸

This past weekend, we held our annual Veterans Pheasant Hunt in partnership with the amazing crew at Wings North!

Saturday morning greeted us with cool temps and a slight breeze — perfect conditions for our hunting dogs to get to work. Even better, we managed to beat the rain! 🙌

40 Veterans. 25 dogs. 8 sponsored fields. 109 pheasants, 4 quail, and 1 grouse harvested. 🐾🧡

But as always, this hunt is about so much more than the birds.

New friendships were made, plenty of laughs were had, and there was no shortage of great camaraderie. After the hunt, everyone enjoyed pheasant chow mein for lunch and some pretty awesome giveaways — including handmade quilts by Kerry Dickey, Shane Didur’s custom 3D artwork, Milwaukee Tool items, and even a bird hunt giveaway! Northwoods TimberWork created handmade plaques for all our sponsors and each dog-and-handler team.

There are so many people who make a weekend like this possible, and we simply cannot say THANK YOU enough.

A huge thank you to Wings North for continuing to partner with us and sponsor this event year after year. Your support of our Veterans means more than we can say.

To our guides and their dogs — thank you for busting through every kind of ground cover imaginable, putting in the work, and giving our Veterans the opportunity to get behind some birds.

To our field sponsors — without your generosity, this hunt simply would not be possible. Thank you for continuing to support our mission and the Veterans we serve. 🇺🇸

A big thank you to our President, Jeremy, and our field staff — Tara, Jason, Terra, Adam, Matt, Andy, and Brett — for all the work behind the scenes and for helping everything run smoothly throughout the day. Alecia extends a special thank-you for your help and presence!

As we kick off two incredible events this morning—one pheasant hunt in Pine City and one fishing trip on Lake of the Woods—we’re reminded of the positive impact Fishing with Vets has on the lives of our veterans. 🇺🇸

None of this would be possible without the generous sponsors and donors who support us throughout the year. Because of you, we’re able to serve more veterans and host more unforgettable events that bring them together in the great outdoors.

That’s why we’re excited to invite you to our First Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on November 21 at the Delano American Legion Post 377!

Please join us, bring your friends and family, and help us continue making a difference for those who have served our country. We would love to see you all there!

ANOTHER THROWBACK THURSDAY — RED LAKE! 🇺🇸

We’re throwing it back to the weekend of June 13 and another eventful Fishing with Vets trip at West Wind Resort on Red Lake!

The wind blew hard and the fishing was tough, so we divided into two groups on Friday to find better conditions. One group headed to Lake of the Woods, while the other made the trip to Lake Winnibigoshish. On Saturday, everyone stayed closer to the resort and fished the Tamarack. While it wasn’t ideal fishing conditions, we did still manage to find some very nice fish!

The weather may not have cooperated, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying a great weekend together. As always, West Wind welcomed us back and provided amazing service throughout the trip. They never disappoint!

A special thank-you to Jamie Allen and his wife for providing Saturday’s meal. Your generosity was greatly appreciated by everyone!

No matter what the wind or the fish throw at us, it is always a privilege to take veterans fishing, share some laughs, and create new memories on the water. We’re already looking forward to next year’s Red Lake trip! 🇺🇸🎣

🎣🇺🇸 THROWBACK THURSDAY — PORT WASHINGTON, WISCONSIN! 🇺🇸🎣

Today, we’re throwing it back to an incredible Fishing with Vets event held on Memorial Day and the following day out of Port Washington, Wisconsin.

Our first charter was especially meaningful for our board member, Evan, who had the opportunity to fish with three guys he deployed with. With gorgeous weather, great camaraderie, and fish for everyone to take home, it was an amazing chance for old friends to reconnect and make new memories together.

Fishing was a little slower during our second charter. We managed to pick up a few fish and missed several others, but the beautiful morning gave us plenty of time to relax, talk, and enjoy the company of the veterans onboard. Sometimes, the conversations and connections are more important than the number of fish in the cooler.

With fishing being tough, we decided to head south for our third charter in search of a new group of fish—and the move paid off in a BIG way! We landed 25 fish in barely over an hour! It was the coolest controlled chaos we’ve ever experienced on the water, and a memory none of us will soon forget!

A giant thank-you to Brandon Sislo, owner of Angling Adventures Guide Service, for donating the charters and for filleting and bagging everyone’s catch. Brandon was extremely knowledgeable and absolutely fantastic with everyone we had onboard. His generosity and dedication helped make this unforgettable event possible.

Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We were grateful to spend it bringing veterans together, reconnecting old friends, and creating memories on the water. 🇺🇸

Our last event of the past few weeks was another event on Lake Mille Lacs. What an amazing time we had last weekend at Red Door Resort!

We had the privilege of taking a wonderful group of veterans from Eagle's Healing Nest out fishing. Fish of all sizes were caught, and the weekend was filled with plenty of laughs, great memories—and some big Mille Lacs waves!

Events like this are only possible because of the incredible people and businesses who support our mission. A huge THANK YOU to:

🇺🇸 Our amazing team of guides who generously donated their time, boats, and equipment.

🎣 Tutts Bait And Tackle for donating the rods and reels.

🎣 Sue Ralph at Sue’s Bait for always hooking us up with fresh bait.

🍔 Skluzacek's Quality Meats for donating hamburgers.

🥩 Milaca Meats for donating awesome pork chops.

🐷 Pekarna Meat Market for donating pork sausage.

👩‍🍳 Jessica Tuma and Perry Schmidt for cooking for two days straight.

🥖 Isle Bakery for donating all the buns for Friday night’s dinner.

🏗️ Andy Anderson and Nor-Son Construction for covering the guide dinner on Thursday night.

Lastly, all of our faithful sponsors and the local community for their continued support

Most importantly, thank you to the veterans of Eagles Healing Nest for spending the weekend with us. We are honored to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for our country.

🚨 Hoping this helps clear up any confusion! 🚨

After each application period closes, we typically receive several emails asking whether applicants were selected for an event. One reason for the confusion is that selection emails don’t always come from our Fishing With Vets admin account—they are often sent directly by the trip lead.

Emails for both upcoming events were sent last night:

• Pheasant Hunting Event: Emails were sent around 6:15 PM from Alecia.
• Lake of the Woods Event: Emails were sent around 7:00 PM from Jason.

If you applied for either event and don’t see an email letting you know whether you were selected, please check your spam or junk folder.

If you have any issues, please do not hesitate to reach out to us through the website. Thank you to everyone who applied, and thank you for your continued support of Fishing With Vets!

Our second event over the the last few weeks was also the weekend of August 29 and it took us to Devils Lake, North Dakota. In typical Devils Lake fashion, the lake tried everything it could to shut us down!

Although we didn’t catch many large fish, we sure caught a lot of them. More importantly, this trip created memories that went far beyond fishing. We had the honor of bringing together two veterans who hadn’t seen each other in 41 years, along with five veterans who deployed to Iraq together in 2004. There was plenty of laughter, storytelling, camaraderie, and good times shared by everyone!

The largest walleye caught by a veteran measured around 20 inches, earning him a new fishing rod generously donated by Tutts Bait And Tackle. Our smallest catch was a mighty 5-inch walleye—good enough to win a giant Rapala! One of our volunteers also landed the biggest walleye of his life, measuring an impressive 28.75 inches!

As always, thank you to our incredible volunteers for their time, hard work, and dedication. Most importantly, thank you to our veterans for their service and sacrifices. It is an honor to bring everyone together and create memories like these. 🇺🇸
