One year ago, Jeanmarie Ferguson was in kidney failure and preparing for end-of-life care. Then, at 4 a.m., the call came: a kidney was available.

Today, Jeanmarie is celebrating one year with her transplant—a life-changing gift from an anonymous donor.

Her story is especially meaningful to us. As a member of the ReMend team, Jeanmarie now brings her lived experience, compassion, and hope to work that supports others navigating kidney disease.

We’re proud to recognize ReMend Mentor, Alex Berrios Jr., who recently participated in the Donate Life Kentucky Trust Symposium at the University of Louisville Shelby Campus.

The event brought people together to raise awareness about organ donation and share information about the services and ongoing efforts supporting communities across Kentucky.

It’s wonderful to see members of the ReMend mentor community continuing to educate, connect, and make a difference wherever they are.

Prior authorization can add another layer of confusion when you are already managing kidney disease, medications and treatment decisions.

It means your insurance plan may need to approve certain medications, tests, procedures or medical equipment before you receive them.

If your healthcare team recommends something, consider asking:

• Does this require prior authorization?
• Who will submit the request?
• How long could the review take?
• What happens if it is denied?

Keep notes, confirmation numbers and copies of any decisions you receive. If a delay could affect your health, contact your healthcare team promptly.
