Whether for a cup of coffee or tea in the morning or on a lunchbreak with some vitamin D, being outdoors in calm, green spaces soothes our souls. We know from research and personal experience that breathing fresh air and standing between trees not only connects us to God's creation but also lowers stress hormones like cortisol.

Our survivors at The Harbor are blessed with beautiful green spaces thanks many generous groups that have weeded, planted and beautified to create pathways for moments of peace, calm and reflection. 🍃🌿🌱

What does a quiet place to land look like?

At The Harbor, it is:

🔹 Soundproofing in our emergency shelter that provides greater privacy and a stronger sense of safety for residents and guests.
🔹 A study room equipped with comfortable furniture where residents can read, learn and pursue education.
🔹 A meeting area that gives residents a quiet place to process the necessary steps toward rebuilding their lives.

A generous donor has provided a $10,000 matching grant to help make these projects possible.

Now we have the opportunity to raise another $10,000 — and every gift brings us closer to the match.

North Star's team is made of up committed, passionate, skilled women who invest in each other and in survivors in myriad ways throughout the year. Our team *is* the program. They are the ones who deliver compassionate, trauma-informed care in each resident's life through the highs and lows each day brings.

Burnout and fatigue are some of the greatest risks to our team's well-being, and we are grateful for many friends who made it possible to invest in them through a staff retreat. Would you pray for us as we set aside a day to build compassion resilience and invest soul care into each woman who serves NSI's mission faithfully?

Over a year ago, North Star opened an emergency shelter in response to community needs and the request of partners on the Human Trafficking Task Force. In the past 12 months, we have provided over 180 days of safe shelter to survivors referred by one of several partner agencies.

Today we are supporting one of our guests as she prepares to relocate safely to be with her family once again. In her words, "I don't know where I'd be right now if North Star hadn't opened their doors and their arms to me."

We believe survivors are experts in their own stories, and we work with each new resident to co-create her individual treatment plan. Our clinical director, Celeste, colllaborates with our counselor, interns and community providers to tailor therapeutic inputs that meet survivors' needs. They deserve the best care we can offer them, and we are committed to filling the gaps they face. It is complex, holy, demanding work, and we are in awe of survivors' resilience as they walk the difficult road toward healing and independence. What an honor it is to walk with them!
