WHY WEDNESDAY: Art of the Horse Edition

Why is Evening of Hope- The Art of the Horse so important?

Because it helps make joyful moments like this one possible. 💙

And because it’s our biggest fundraiser of the year! At NTRC program fees cover only a portion of what it costs to provide our services, events like Evening of Hope help fill that gap.

This year, we’re celebrating that joy through The Art of the Horse. Throughout history, horses have inspired artists and appeared in countless paintings, photographs, sculptures, and other works of art. At NTRC, we believe the smiles, confidence, and connections they inspire in our community are another beautiful expression of their artistry.

Guests will have the opportunity to bid on custom paintings, professional photography experiences, handcrafted jewelry, and one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by the horses of NTRC. And it’s not just art! We’ll have unique experiences, thoughtfully crafted baskets, and more than a few bottles of wine in our first ever bottle pull!🍷

Whether you’re a lifelong horse lover, art lover, or just someone who loves discovering something beautiful and unexpected, there will truly be something for everyone.

And every ticket purchased, every bid placed, and every piece taken home helps create more moments of joy, growth, connection, and hope for people with disabilities.

We’re so thrilled to highlight Katy Bolin and her story during this year’s Evening of Hope- The Art of the Horse.

Each year during the gala we recognize one of participants and give them and their family the stage to share what equine assisted services have meant for them.

We can’t wait to celebrate Katy, and all the participants, volunteers, and community members that make up the NTRC family ❤️.

✨ Flashback Friday to the very first Evening of Hope in 2013!

Thirteen years ago, our community gathered for the first time in support of NTRC’s riders, horses and mission, and began a tradition that continues to grow more meaningful with every passing year.

We’re so grateful for everyone who helped bring that first evening to life, everyone who has joined us along the way and everyone preparing to celebrate with us again this year. 💙

What a beautiful night to enjoy the sensory trail at NTRC!

We’re so lucky to have access to the sensory trail. It gives our participants the chance to experience riding in a completely different environment. One that’s filled with changing terrain, new sights and sounds, interactive elements and plenty of opportunities to practice skills in a new way.

As a horse walks over uneven ground, around turns and through different areas of the trail, the rider’s body is constantly making small adjustments. That can help build balance, core strength, coordination and body awareness.

The trail also offers an incredible amount of sensory input. Riders may hear leaves moving overhead, feel changes in temperature and sunlight, encounter new textures and objects, and experience the movement of their horse outside the predictable environment of the arena.

There’s a cognitive piece, too. Following directions, navigating obstacles, identifying things along the trail and anticipating what comes next can encourage attention, communication, motor planning and problem solving.

And perhaps one of our favorite benefits: confidence. 💙

For some participants, leaving the arena, trying something unfamiliar or successfully guiding their horse through a new environment can be a pretty big deal.

The sensory trail may look like a beautiful ride through the woods (and it absolutely is) but there’s a whole lot of learning, growing and connecting happening along the way!

It’s National Dog Day, so naturally we have to introduce you to one of NTRC’s most important behind-the-scenes team members: Honey! 🐾💛

Honey belongs to our Equine and Volunteer Manager, Amanda and lives on-site with her.

You may not see her around when events are underway or the horses are being worked, for safety sake, but that doesn’t make her any less of a valued member of the NTRC family.

And be sure to peep the last photo for a sneak peek at some of the artwork that will be on display at this year’s Art of the Horse: An Evening of Hope! 🎨🐴

Help us celebrate 25 years of NTRC!

As we prepare to celebrate our 25th year of serving individuals with disabilities throughout the northland, we’re looking back at all the people, horses and moments that have made NTRC what it is today…and we need your help!

If you have old photos, videos or favorite memories from your time with NTRC, we would love to see them. Share them in the comments, send us a message or email them to [email protected] so we can include your moment in our 25th anniversary celebration during the Evening of Hope Gala.

Whether you or your child took classes with us, volunteered, loaned us one of the amazing horses we’ve cherished over the years, supported an event or simply cheered us on along the way, you’re part of NTRC’s story.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s NTRC Trapshoot such a fun and successful day!

We’re especially grateful to Ryan Holder for the trophy, and to Keith and his entire KCTA team for hosting us and helping everything run so smoothly from start to finish.

Thank you to the Ritzmans and TriStar Arms for making the gun raffle possible, and to Brent and Jolene Harris for generously donating the Florida trip we raffled off. These incredible prizes added so much fun and excitement to the day!

Most of all, thank you to everyone who came out to shoot, bought raffle tickets, brought friends and supported NTRC. We had such a great time with all of you, and every bit of support helps us continue providing equine assisted services to children and adults in our community.

We’re so grateful you spent the day with us. We couldn’t do it without you! 💙🐴
