Impressive conservation methods 💚💦
At the Young Living US Convention last week, Dan Olsen, the farm manager of the Mount Nebo Farm in Mona, Utah, was asked about the water saving systems on the farm, and this is what he said:
💦💦💦 Within the distillery, we have our reflux and our floral water, so as we're distilling and creating oil, we have our byproduct which is hydrosol, floral water, reflux. Before, we would put that into our systems and send it down into the to the Mona reservoir. Now, we actually send that to a floral water pond, and from that pond that water gets injected into our water lines for our irrigation. So, as we're producing floral water, it all goes right into our irrigation system, and it's repurposed back onto the fields. So, none of it is lost.
Our other system within the Distillery, is our cooling system. As we’re cooling or condensing our steam, from steam to a liquid, we have to use cold water that goes around all the pipes that the steam is in. And as you do that, it heats up that water so then we have to send that it out of the distillery because we need cold water to cool the steam as it continues to flow.
So, we actually installed a closed loop system where the hot water goes out of our condensers through a cooling tower, through several heat exchangers, and then comes back in cold again. Because of that system, it’s a closed loop system and just circles round and round, not injecting water into the distillery and flushing it out on the back end. And it's our non contact water, it's the water around the pipes that cools what is within the pipes.
So that's how we were able to save through those systems, 260 million gallons of water a year! 💦💦💦
