On behalf of the RISRC, we wanted to touch on the recent passing of one of our own. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all of those who had the honor of knowing or working alongside Tom Xiarhos. This is a difficult loss for the Respiratory community in RI.
I feel Michael J. Carnevale said it best:
"This week I learned of the passing of Tom, and it’s hard to put into words the loss of someone who was truly one of the good ones.
I had the privilege of working alongside Tom for many years, first as a colleague and later as his manager. He was the kind of Respiratory Therapist every patient deserved and every department hopes to have—compassionate, dedicated, humble, and always willing to help others without seeking recognition.
Tom passed away far too young at just 55 years old. If I had to describe the type of person he was in one story, it would be this: he donated part of his liver to his son. That single act says more about Tom’s character than anything else ever could. His love for his family, his selflessness, and his willingness to sacrifice for others defined who he was.
The world needs more people like Tom. He touched countless lives through his work, his kindness, and his quiet generosity. Those of us who had the honor of knowing him are better for it.
Rest easy, my friend. You will be missed, remembered, and never forgotten. ❤️🫁"
