Today, we are proud to honor Mrs. Norma Flores-Ruiz, the Founding President of our chapter. Through her visionary leadership, the Rio Grande Valley Chapter was founded in February 2022 and officially chartered in September 2023, becoming the first National Charity League chapter to serve the Rio Grande Valley, with the nearest chapter located more than 200 miles away.

In recognition of her vision, leadership, and unwavering dedication, we celebrate the lasting legacy she has created. Through her guidance, Mrs. Flores-Ruiz built not only an organization, but a community rooted in service, compassion, and purpose.

Norma has shown us that true leadership is measured not by recognition, but by the lives touched and hearts inspired. She selected the founding theme, “We cannot all do great things, but we can all do things with great love,” which became the guiding principle of our chapter and reflected her servant-hearted approach to leadership and community impact.

Through her vision, the Rio Grande Valley Chapter established meaningful traditions, cultivated partnerships with local philanthropies, and created a foundation that will continue to inspire future generations of Patronesses and Ticktockers for years to come.

We are deeply grateful for your leadership, dedication, and the incredible legacy you have built. - Dr. Marissa Gomez Martinez

💙 We are incredibly proud to celebrate our National Charity League Rio Grande Valley Chapter President, Dr. Marissa Gomez-Martinez, for being recognized by our philanthropy partner, the American Red Cross, with the prestigious Youth Sponsor Award for 2026. This special recognition honors a Red Cross Club Sponsor who demonstrates outstanding leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm in inspiring youth through service and volunteerism.

What an incredible season of impact for our National Charity League, Inc., Rio Grande Valley Chapter girls! This year’s chapter theme, “Embrace Change. Be the Change.” could not be a more perfect reflection of what these young women are doing in our community.

With vision, compassion, and bold leadership, they created an ambitious project and submitted a grant application to National Charity League, Inc. Out of 18 applications submitted, only 3 were awarded and our chapter was the only solo chapter recipient to receive the full award amount.

Because of their hard work, they have already distributed 4,000 sanitary napkins in restrooms across McAllen, Mission, and Edinburg, while also collecting an additional 6,000 products to continue expanding this effort. They recently had the opportunity to share their journey with the national NCL network during a live Zoom presentation, and they represented our chapter beautifully.

Now, the next phase begins. These young leaders are working to place signs in women’s restrooms that connect women and girls to non-emergency resources and teach the international signal for help. Their goal is to help transform public restrooms into spaces that promote dignity, access, health, and safety for all.

And this is where our community can help. If you own, manage, or know of a high-traffic public restroom where these signs could be placed, we would be honored to include your business or organization in this project. Help us expand the reach of this meaningful initiative and bring these important resources to more women and girls across our community.

Please reach out to April Flowers via DM if you would like to help us place the remaining decals and signs.

This is what it looks like to embrace change and be the change — and we could not be prouder of these remarkable young women.

With full hearts, we gathered for our 4th Annual Senior Recognition Event at the beautiful Rancho Guadalupe to honor our remarkable Senior Class of 2026.

Our seniors began their NCL journey in 2022 as 8th graders, just coming out of the COVID pandemic. It feels especially meaningful to reflect on our first theme that year:
“Not all of us can do great things, but we can all do small things with great love.”

Over the past four years, these young women have done exactly that. Together, they have contributed 1,000 hours of philanthropic service, serving our chapter and the Rio Grande Valley with compassion, leadership, and heart.

It also felt especially fitting to celebrate them under this year’s theme: “Embrace Change. Be the Change.” These seniors have embraced change with grace and have become young women already making a meaningful difference in the world around them.

We are so proud to share that members of the Class of 2026 will be attending The University of Texas at Austin, St. Mary’s University, Baylor University, Texas A&M University, The University of Oklahoma, and Texas State University.

To our seniors, Emma, Violet, Carolina, Lily, Kennedy, Addison, Ryan, Ana, Jillian & Sophia, thank you for your commitment to NCL all five years, the joy, leadership, and love you have brought to this chapter. We are so proud of you and are cheering you on!

Ciao Bellas, Hello Dolce Vita 💙🍋🌸🩷

Carolina Ruiz is a senior at IB Lamar Academy / Memorial High School, and this fall she will be attending The University of Texas at Austin, where she will study at the The LBJ School of Public Affairs.
During her high school years, Carolina has distinguished herself through her involvement in Varsity Springboard & Dive, Pole Vault, National Honor Society as Treasurer, DECA, Hidalgo County Cotillion, the National Hispanic Institute, and as a Texas Bluebonnet Girls State delegate.

Carolina began her NCL journey in San Antonio in seventh grade, and when her family returned to the Rio Grande Valley, she played an important role in helping create a local chapter. As a founding Ticktocker of the Rio Grande Valley Chapter, Carolina has been a true example of leadership and commitment.
Last summer, while attending the NHI Collegiate World Series, she received the Major Leaguer Award, recognizing her strong leadership and impact.
When she is not volunteering in the community or working at HOTWORX, Carolina enjoys working out, spending time with friends, and watching Gilmore Girls with her mom. One of her favorite NCL experiences this year was working on a passion project with the International Museum of Art & Science, which helped her further explore her love of art.
Carolina, thank you for being a founding member of our chapter and for all the heart, leadership, and service you have given to our community. We are so proud of you and so excited to watch you begin this next chapter at UT Austin. Your future is bright, and your NCL sisters will always be cheering you on!
