London, UK…I brought you my whole heart 🫶
I just returned from an epic trip overseas with my oldest in celebration of his high school graduation, a trip we’ve been dreaming about since forever. The assignment was to choose a destination somewhere overseas and activities that uniquely inspired him to live a big life, whatever that might be ~ and he understood it.🔥
He chose to travel together to the UK, tour London, drive racercars, and compete together in the World’s Toughest Mudder, a 24-hour world championship obstacle course race that would take place on the grounds of Belvoir Castle in Grantham, England.
We trained for months, and our main goal was to just keep moving all 24 hours. His stretch goal was to complete 50 miles on course. I’m thrilled to share that despite setbacks and challenges (a normal part of endurance racing), we hit that goal together…and he even went on to complete one extra 5-mile lap before the bell tolled. I managed to stand atop the podium and took 3rd in my age group; meanwhile, my guy was top ten in his, as well as taking the honors of being the youngest competitor in the race! What a wild and crazy ride, and honestly such a special life experience that neither of us will soon forget.
Pictured is my son and me at the finish line of WTM, us along our London escapades, as well as the view of my race morning *yoga* prep sesh on the patio of our Airbnb. Pictured in the distance is a sweet little pony that became a fast friend on the journey.
One takeaway from the adventure: Keep moving forward! We all go through darkness, obstacles and challenges in life. Together, we can do far more than we give ourselves credit for. And don’t forget, the light always beats the darkness! Dawn gave us renewed energy after a long night on the race course.
Whatever you’re going through, keep going! You’re never alone. You can do hard things. And the sun will rise again. ☀️
