PSA: Secure your pets during emergencies!
***PLEASE READ***
Recently our personnel entered a home to provide medical care for a resident in need and was bitten by a family pet. Prior to entering the home the resident stated that the animal would not bite anyone. Unfortunately that was not the case. The affected personnel now has to receive a series of rabies shots over a period of several days and the animal needed to be quarantined due to uncertainty of it's vaccination records.
When our personnel enter a home, animals don't always understand that we're there to help. Frequently they know that their owners are in distress and may perceive any strange person as a threat and become aggressive. We understand this is not the animal's fault and that they're likely trying to protect their owner.
We don't want our personnel to be bitten by any animals and we certainly don't want your pets to be taken away from you in any way. Therefore, we respectively request, that any time you or your family calls 911 for any emergency, that you secure your animals prior to our arrival. It's best to put them in another room until our personnel have left to avoid any unfortunate incidents that could cause harm to our staff or your pets.
Thank you for your cooperation!
