Speak Up: How to Recognize and Respond to Bias-Based Harassment in Everyday Life

Recent events have denoted a steady rise in violence against BIPOC communities. Many individuals feel helpless and would like to know how to speak up and stand up as allies and advocates, or more importantly, for oneself. College of Education’s Diversity and Community Enhancement Committee (DCEC) and The Herr Clinic Racial Trauma Taskforce is hosting a workshop where we will define and discuss bias-based harassment.

Dr. Seria Chatters will be joined by Ms. Iris Richardson, Director of Diversity for UPPS, who will also discuss ways to protect your classes, meetings, and gatherings from Zoom bombings and resources UPPS has to help.

Please see the offering below provided by Penn State’s Herr Clinic.

The disproportionate impact of COVID and police brutality on Black and Brown communities, the rise in violence against Asian and Pacifific Islander communities, and the Zoom bombings at Penn State, many in which racist language was used against BIPOC students and faculty highlight a need for spaces in which BIPOC individuals can process and work toward healing.

The Herr Clinic at Penn State in collaboration with the Diversity & Community Enhancement Committee (DCEC) will be sponsoring a space for BIPOC individuals to process their experiences, move toward healing, and continue to build community. The event will take place on Thursday, April 8th from 6pm-7pm. You must register to attend. Please register here: https://psu.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJUtd-Ctpz4oH9URFmeAqAFqaejwMGGOxd4O
