GSU Community Practice Learning Lab

GSU Community Practice Learning Lab Welcome to the Governors State University Department of Social Work Community Practice Learning Lab (CPLL).

The CPLL provides opportunities for students to participate in mezzo and macro level internships throughout the Chicagoland area. The CPLL is an innovative and exciting development that will be forever standing at Governors State University. Our students can commit to the community and have hands on experience in various areas; especially around the current issue of Covid-19. The CPLL was conceive

d, in the early days of the pandemic with the anticipation that there would be structural, systemic, and community issues. These situations are perfect for social workers to address at the macro, mezzo, and policy levels; perfect ways to engage social work students in policy practice. In creating the CPLL, we knew that there would be intersecting issues associated with the pandemic. Students in the CPLL are addressing community and domestic violence, Covid-19, voter disenfranchisement, structural racism, and learning how all the pieces intersect. We took this opportunity to create social work moments for social work students.

Nearly 60% of U.S. states and territories are reporting high rates of COVID-19. Take steps to slow the spread in your community:

😷 Wear a mask that fits snugly over your nose and mouth.
↔ Stay at least 6 feet from others.
✅ Get a vaccine when it’s available to you.
🚫 Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated spaces.
🖐 Wash your hands with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
