Big news! 📣 We are incredibly honored to announce that Women in Charge has been awarded a $9,000 Adult Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation! 📚✨

This generous funding will directly support our mission to help women take charge of their lives through:

✅ Adult Education Instruction
✅ HiSET/High School Equivalency Prep
✅ English Language Acquisition

At Women in Charge, we believe that education is the foundation for a better life. Not just for the women we serve, but for their children and our entire community. This grant will help us provide the tools, confidence, and resources our students need to reach their full potential.

A huge thank you to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for investing in our students and believing in the power of literacy! ❤️

We’ve had a few days to let the numbers sink in, and we are still overwhelmed by the incredible support of this community.

Together, we raised a grand total of $3,270! 🚀

Because of you, we didn’t just meet our goal, we blew past it. These funds are already being put to work to provide the "hidden" essentials for our students, from bus passes to the birth certificates and IDs they need to start their new careers.

To everyone who donated, shared our posts, or cheered us on from the sidelines: Thank you. You are the reason Women in Charge has been a beacon of hope in St. Louis for over 30 years, and you are the reason our future looks so bright.

Because of your overwhelming generosity, we have shattered our initial goal and our first stretch goal. We are currently sitting at over $2,500!

Swipe through to see why this matters. These are the faces of those we serve, and those who serve them.

From the students working tirelessly to change their family's trajectory, to the volunteers who show up every week with patience and heart, to the supporters who make it all financially possible—this is the Women in Charge family.

With these extra funds, we are going even further to remove barriers. We are helping our students secure the birth certificates, IDs, and transportation they need to turn their education into a career.

We still have three Power Hours left!
🕒 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
🕒 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
🕘 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Can we hit $3,000? Let’s find out!

Meet Anne, one of the incredible volunteers who makes the magic happen at Women in Charge! 🎨✨

After a 30-year career as an art teacher, Anne joined us in July 2024 as an ESL tutor. Driven by a desire to stand up for our immigrant community and celebrate the beauty of our diverse culture, Anne has become a pillar of our program.

"I love the communal nature of Women in Charge: the staff, tutors, and students feel like a family," Anne shares. "It’s a place of growth and possibility, and the energy is always positive."

We are so grateful for volunteers like Anne who turn our classroom into a beacon of hope and inclusion. Will you join Anne in supporting our mission today? Every gift helps us keep these vital services free for the women who need them most.

Because of the support of the program, I feel like I can be myself and change my life."

Meet Marqueisha. She is one of the many resilient, driven women working toward her HiSET at Women in Charge. Her goal is simple: to become a better woman and a better mother for her child.

We are proud to stand with Marqueisha on her journey, but we can't do it without you. As we approach Give STL Day on May 7th, we are asking our community to help us ensure these classrooms stay open and these resources stay free for every woman who walks through our doors.

Whether it’s $25 or $100, your donation directly funds the support systems that help women change their stories.
