The Friend of Martins Tavern want to share news from the Marshallton United Methodist Church. Their new food pantry is available for you with free, shelf-stable food in the church parking lot.

Many thanks to Jude Rohner and Troop 52 for planning and constructing the new pantry at Marshallton UMC. They also created a paved path that connects the pantry and the library. This is Jude's Eagle Scout project.

With the celebration of America's Semiquincentennial upon us, the Friends of Martin's Tavern have planned a day of activities for July 19, 2026.

1:00 pm - A Dare to Declare Event - a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The event will take place at the Bradford Meeting House. The Chester County Choral Society will be singing their patriotic medley as people arrive. Come hear the words that shaped America.

2:00 pm - Heritage Flag Ceremony is presented by Gene Hough. The flag ceremony has been experienced by over 5000 people in 11 states, in both urban and rural communities. The ceremony teaches history and respect for our country and each other. The Chester County Choral Society will sing the Star Spangled Banner & the patriotic melody. Please join the Friends of Martin's Tavern at the Blacksmith Shop as we continue to celebrate America250!

3:00 pm - Annual Ice Cream Social - Please come and join your host, Friends of Martin’s Tavern, at Martin's Tavern/Humphry Marshall Historical Park (552 Northbrook Road, Marshallton). The Fords Road Frolic music will perform. The Chester County 250 Travelling Exhibit will be on display. The ‘wish wall’ will be displayed so that people can write their wishes for America, and, of course, ICE CREAM.

With the forecast calling for rain most of Sunday, the Friends of Martin's Tavern will not be offering refreshments after the Marshallton Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Ceremony.

The Friends hope you have marked your calendar for Sunday, July 19th, when a Celebration of America250! will take place. The schedule includes:

1-2 PM Reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Bradford Meeting House. The Chester County Choral Society will be singing their patriotic medley as people begin to arrive.

2-3 PM Flag Ceremony with Gene Hough, which teaches the history and respect for the flag, will take place at the Blacksmith Shop.

3-5 PM Ice Cream Social at Martin’s Tavern with Fords Road Frolic music and an opportunity to see The Chester County 250 Travelling Exhibit.

The Memorial Day Weekend is upon us! Once again the Marshallton Conservation Trust is hosting a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. Join the community on Sunday, May 24th, at 1:30 pm when the parade steps off. The Ceremony takes place at the Marshallton United Methodist Church. Following the Ceremony, please enjoy refreshments provided by The Friends of Martin's Tavern at the Blacksmith Shop.

I'm sure you've noticed work being done on the Blacksmith Shop. Until that is complete, The Village Shop, which is housed in the Blacksmith Shop, will remain closed. When we have an opening date, we'll let you know.

Wasn't that taste of Spring nice!! Hopefully we're past the ACCUMULATING snow for this winter.

For those of you ready to do some shopping at The Village Shop, you'll need to wait a little longer than usual. Work is being done on the Blacksmith Shop so it will probably be at least late April before the shop can open.

Sunday is the last day the shop will be open (noon-4pm). Christmas Clearance. Shop will reopen in Spring of 2026.
