Instead of choosing to Discover Fayette PA, through Fionna's Patriotic Adventure by traveling to a historical location this week, Fionna Fayette™ chose to reflect on two meaningful memorials that recently visited our community: the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and the 9/11 Memorial Traveling Wall at the Fayette County Fairgrounds.
Fionna learned that the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is a 3/5-scale replica of the memorial in Washington, D.C. She discovered that it honors the more than 58,000 American service members who were killed in action or remain missing as a result of the Vietnam War. As she walked along the Wall, she noticed that the names are arranged chronologically by date of casualty, telling the story of the war as it unfolded.
As Fionna explored the 9/11 Memorial Traveling Wall, she learned about the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. She also discovered the incredible bravery of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, and everyday heroes who courageously responded that day. Curious to learn more, Fionna asked her family to share what they remembered and how they felt during that historic moment in our nation's history.
By the end of her visit, Fionna realized these memorials are much more than traveling exhibits. They stand as powerful reminders of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the American people. Looking around not only Fayette County, PA but across the United States, Fionna saw how communities come together to honor those who served, remember those we lost, and support one another through even the most difficult times.
Be sure to look out for her next adventure in Fayette County, PA for the Fayette County, PA 250th celebration.
