Understanding Demand Response at the Y

The Uniontown Area YMCA voluntarily participates in a demand response program to help manage energy costs and keep monthly membership rates affordable.

Today, we received a PJM notice at 2:00 p.m. indicating a demand response event beginning at 4:00 p.m. These notices are issued by PJM, not directly by our energy provider. During these events, certain high-energy-use areas, such as the steam room and sauna, may be closed to help reduce energy consumption.

We hope this sheds some light on the program and provides transparency about how these events may affect our facilities. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to make responsible decisions that help keep the Y affordable for our members and community.

We understand the frustration, but appreciate cooperation.

We love this partnership with Fayette County Community Action Agency, Inc. !

How does Experience WORKS! help local youth take the next step toward a career?

Everyone, meet Noelle! Noelle is a perfect example of how the Experience WORKS! program helps young people gain valuable, hands-on experience while earning a paycheck.

Noelle is a student at Fayette County CTI, enrolled in the Early Childhood Learning Program. While she already had work experience as a server at a local restaurant, she wanted to gain firsthand experience working with children. Through Experience WORKS!, she quickly completed the approval process and started working at the Uniontown YMCA within just one week!

She is already making a difference! Noelle has been helping in several areas of the YMCA, from clerical support to cleaning, but her true talent shines when she’s working with the kids!

She’s pictured here putting the finishing touches on a co****le board she made for the children to enjoy at the YMCA’s Fall Fest this Friday. How fun is that?

Although her current program placement wraps up around Thanksgiving, Noelle has already been hired to continue working in the YMCA’s Child Watch department in December! The YMCA is pleased with her work, and we couldn’t be happier to see her success.

Thanks to funding from the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board, local youth like Noelle can access opportunities that offer so much more than a paycheck. Experience WORKS! provides up to 200 hours of hands-on, real-world work experience in a field that interests them, helping them build skills, confidence, and a foundation for their future careers.

All of us are so proud of Noelle and all she’s accomplishing! If you’re visiting the Uniontown YMCA anytime soon, keep an eye out for Noelle and the wonderful contributions she’s making to their programs!
