Starting wage: $18.21 per hour

Ryan Cramer, LSW, our Director of Dual Diagnosis, gave his presentation titled, “Improving Crisis and Emergency Care for Neurodiverse Individuals” at the 43rd annual NADD conference held in Pittsburgh this year. Ryan has over thirty years of experience in providing supports and services to autistic and neurodiverse individuals and is extremely passionate about his work.

We’d like to recognize our Director of Behavior Services, Gretchen Bircher, MS, who served as a member of the conference planning committee, helping to welcome professionals from all over the world to Pittsburgh. She also volunteered at the conference.

NADD: is the world’s largest non-profit dedicated to providing an understanding of and services to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs. Fayette Resources became the first residential provider in the United States to become accredited by NADD in 2015 and is still NADD’s longest accredited provider.

During DSP week, we weren’t the only ones celebrating DSPs.
Participants of the Fayette Region Wellness Group, come together for a weekly craft group at the Michael's in Uniontown, PA. This weekly gathering is made possible by the store manager, Becky, and her associate, Kelly. When Becky and Kelly learned it was DSP week, they made giftbags to help show their appreciation for our DSPs, who faithfully bring clients to the weekly craft group.
This was incredibly thoughtful, kind, and appreciated by our DSP coworkers.

We would like to congratulate the winner of our 2026 DuBois Region DSP of the Year Award, Cheyann Hawk!

At Martha Street, Cheyann takes the time to listen and understand the people she supports, including finding ways to communicate when someone may have difficulty expressing what they want or need. When she notices that a person’s needs are changing, she advocates for additional support and works to make sure those needs are addressed. She encourages choice, independence and involvement in the community, while making sure each person has opportunities to participate in the things that are important to them.

Cheyann is a leader. She helps to train new employees, participates in ISP meetings, keeps coworkers informed when things change, helps cover shifts and is someone others turn to when they have questions. Her nominations describe her as a problem-solver who is willing to step in and help wherever she is needed.

One of the things that stood out was how quietly Cheyann does all of this. She simply sees what needs done and does it without hesitation, and that is something that should be recognized and appreciated.

Some of the leaders shaping disability services today started their careers as DSPs.

We were glad to see two familiar faces in this video from PAR: Fayette Resources President & CEO Tim Pearl and COO Kelly Knarr, sharing their perspectives on the work of Direct Support Professionals.

Both Tim and Kelly began their careers providing direct support, giving them firsthand experience with the skill, responsibility, and relationships at the heart of this work. Those experiences continue to inform their leadership at Fayette Resources today.

Thank you to Pennsylvania Advocacy and Resources for Autism and Intellectual Disability for sharing these important perspectives and to The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties for producing this video.
