Located in the Center of Nassau County, Uniondale is a hamlet of Long Island characterized as the HUB. It is known for it’s vibrant mix of culture, classes, business and entertainment. While its rich past is steeped in military pride and historical aeronautic events as the home of former Mitchel Air Force Base, the legendary New York Islanders, one of the National Hockey League’s most successful teams has also called it home.
Today, however, its newest pride is in the Chamber. It stands to symbolize the “FIVE POINTS” union of business, academia, non-profits, government, and community. With a population of approximately 42,000 (U.S. Census 2010), Uniondale is considered one of the most diverse suburbs of New York State representing virtually every demographical variation. Boasting over 2,000 registered businesses, it is yet another part of Uniondale’s unique composition that make it an extraordinary place to live and work on Long Island. Nestled conveniently exactly north of the Southern State Parkway and directly west of the Meadowbrook Parkway, Uniondale provides residents and business owners easy access to major highways and freeways that lead to all corners of the island. Whether heading to New York City or to the Hamptons, each way is no more than an hour drive. The ease of commute is one of the most attractive qualities of the location as well as its close proximity to the major shopping, entertainment, arts, culture and dining experiences.
There is one public high school, two middle schools, and five elementary schools. Alongside with these, there is an option of two Catholic parochial schools and one Hebrew school. Education is top priority among Uniondale residents and every consideration was made to afford every family the balance of choices.
Currently, there are talks between developers, community organizations and Nassau County legislators to expand the James J. Byrne Community Center to accommodate and provide additional programming for the growing youth and senior population. Additionally, thanks to Kevan Abrahams and the Nassau County Legislature, continuous beautification “street- scaping”, safety, regulation, and home-owner initiatives are successfully underway and headed collectively by the five civic associations. Uniondale continues to grow and evolve exponentially in all areas into the suburb of the future. It is a community of many cultures, many religions, many faces, many hopes and many dreams. And now is the time to unite all of its talents, resources and assets; and, bring them to the forefront for one common goal... Progress.
